Dwayne TIMMS

Obituary of Dwayne William TIMMS

April 8, 1954 – Edmonton, Alberta
December 24, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Dwayne Timms, beloved husband of Sally Timms (nee Langton), of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2020 at the age of 66 years, following a sudden decline in his battle with Multiple Myeloma, a blood (bone marrow) cancer.

Dwayne was born in Edmonton, Alberta, on April 8, 1954. He moved to Calgary, Alberta, in 1976 after graduating from NAIT as an RET (Registered Engineering Technologist) in 1975. Dwayne never fully adopted Calgary however, and always (annoyingly) rooted for his beloved Edmonton Eskimos and Edmonton Oilers.

Dwayne married Sally in May 1985; they had their son, Stephen, in June 1986 and their daughter, Sarah, in August 1989.

Dwayne had a long and successful career working at various oil and gas companies, including HBOG, Denison Mines, Hunt Oil, Cabre Exploration, and TAQA North. Dwayne retired in 2012 following his cancer diagnosis and thereafter dedicated himself to loving his family and friends and living his life to the fullest.

In his younger years, Dwayne enjoyed winter and summer breaks in Whitefish and Kalispell, Montana, and deep sea fishing in Campbell River, BC. Dwayne “hated” golfing, but was the first to sign up for various golf trips to BC and especially loved any opportunity to “golf” (eat!) in one of his favorite places on earth, Palm Springs. Dwayne also enjoyed quadding in the mountains of the East Kootenays, BC, and among the sand dunes in Palm Springs, however that activity invariably left him with broken bones, cuts, and bruises. One of Dwayne’s less dangerous passions was preparing decadent meals for his beloved family and friends; Dwayne was a true foodie, whose vacation photos invariably included numerous shots of the beautifully plated, gourmet meals he enjoyed.

Dwayne’s favorite activity of all was travelling. Over the years Dwayne visited many places including Miami, New Orleans, Maui, New York, San Francisco, Oregon, Palm Springs, San Diego, Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas; Costa Rica, Mexico, the Caribbean, the Bahamas, Tahiti and Europe, as well as Nova Scotia, PEI and BC, Canada. Dwayne especially loved cruising and was already in the process of booking the next post-Covid excursion. Dwayne really treasured the trips he took with close friends, including driving down the California and Oregon coasts and an earlier sailboat adventure from Nanaimo, BC, to San Juan Islands, Washington. Closer to home, Dwayne cherished an annual two-week stay in Invermere, BC, every summer where he could enjoy kayaking, biking, and entertaining his family and friends. His two most recent and memorable trips included a three-week driving tour of England, Scotland and Wales with Sally, and a cruise to the Caribbean with his family in March 2020, just as Covid arrived in Alberta.

Besides his loving wife, Dwayne is survived by his son, Stephen (Taylor), and his daughter, Sarah (Colin), of Calgary, Alberta. Dwayne is also survived by his mother, Leita Timms, and his sister, Fae-Lynn (Ray) Barron, of Edmonton, Alberta; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Dwayne was predeceased by his father, William (Bill) Timms of Edmonton, Alberta.

We would be remiss if we didn’t mention Dwayne’s adored grand-dog, Bella, a teacup yorkie; most nights, the two of them invariably ended up sharing Dwayne’s pillow.
