Obituary of Hugh Glen MCDONALD

September 21, 1932 – Weldon, Saskatchewan
December 25, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Hugh Glen McDonald, beloved husband of June Alice McDonald (nee Christianson) of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully at the Southwood Hospice on Friday, December 25, 2020 at the age of 88 years.

Hugh was born in Weldon, SK on September 21, 1932. His family later moved to Kinistino, SK, where he completed his schooling and began his career as a telegraph operator with the CN Railway. This involved extensive travelling, relieving station agents in the Province. Hugh had a lifelong love for trains.

The family lived in Prince Albert for twenty years, where Hugh was in business with his brother Roy. In 1976, the family moved to Red Deer, AB, where Hugh started his employment as a journeyman parts-man with an Oilfield Equipment Supply Company. Hugh retired in 1991 and then became an amateur Radio operator, following in the foot-steps of his father and brother. In 2000, Hugh and June moved to Calgary to be near their family.

Hugh was a handyman of all sorts; if anything was broken he could fix it. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and curling; and all things in nature. Hugh took interest in all species of birds that returned in spring and knew where they nested in the area. He also enjoyed gardening and yard work. Hugh was a quiet, caring, loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be sadly missed.

Hugh will be lovingly remembered by his wife June of sixty years, daughter Maureen McRae; and grandsons, Sean McRae and Ian McRae of Calgary. He is also survived by his brother Archie, sister-in-law Myrna Collver and her husband Ron; as well as many nieces and nephews and their children.

Hugh was predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Frances, his brother Roy; sisters-in-law, June and Jessie; and brother-in-law law and sister in law Leonard and Fern Clayton.

A Celebration of Hugh’s life will be held at a later date. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Hugh’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
