Obituary of James (Jim) Keith ROSS

March 25, 1929 – Vanguard, Saskatchewan
December 27, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Jim Ross of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at the age of 91 years.

Jim was born in Vanguard, SK, on March 25, 1929. He was the fourth of five children to homesteaders, Alex and Hanna Ross. After working in Guelph, ON, Jim eventually settled in Calgary, AB, where he met his future wife Betty Cartwright. They were married in 1952, and celebrated their sixtieth anniversary in 2012. Always involved in construction, Jim was a journeyman carpenter, draftsman, and construction superintendent. Jim was ultimately employed as a Manager at PCL Construction, until his retirement in 1993.

Jim was an active member of the Masonic Order, Perfection Lodge No. 9, Royal Arch, and the Scottish Rite for over sixty years. Jim served as Master in 1973, and was the Lodge secretary for over a decade. He was proud that four generations of the Cartwright/Ross/Molyneux family have been involved in Masonry. Jim accomplished much through his life and was particularly proud of the cabin retreat he and Betty built themselves in the mountains at Lac Des Arcs on Heart Creek. Throughout his life Jim enjoyed riding horses, skiing, golfing, curling, social dancing, and fixing anything that was broken.

Betty and Jim enjoyed traveling in their motor homes, but Jim’s most memorable vacation was a trip to Scotland with his daughter at age 84. Jim loved children, animals, meeting old friends at the pub, and being of service to others. He dearly loved to laugh and pull pranks on family and friends. Jim will be most remembered for his warm friendship.

Jim is survived by his daughter Wendy Ross and son-in-law Grant Molyneux; and his grandson Scott Ross-Molyneux. He is also survived by his sister Shirley Hunt of Brandon, MB, and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was predeceased by his wife Betty Ross, parents, Hannah and Alexander Ross; brother Alan Ross, and sisters, Mary Ross and Marjorie McIntyre.
