Obituary of Rolando "Rolly" Ng CHAN

May 20, 1957 – Manila, Philippines
December 25, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Rolando “Rolly” Ng Chan, Loving Husband, Father and Friend passed away on Christmas morning, Friday, December 25, 2020 at 5:45AM at the age of 63 years.

Rolando was born Sampaloc, Manila, Philippines May 20, 1957 together with two sisters and seven brothers and parents, Lik Chan and Lian Ng. He came from very humble beginnings in the capital and took his education very seriously. Eventually he met his soon to be wife Delia Aquino, through a family member of hers and kept in contact with her as he took up a better opportunity for work in Taiwan. When his contract in Taiwan ended, Rolando went back to his native Philippines and married Delia in April 9, 1989. Opportunities were boundless in that day and age, where The Chan’s saw peace and quiet in Calgary, Canada, they pounced on their chance and got sponsored to be Canadian citizens. Here he found a job as a Baker in Safeway for twenty-nine years, proudly raised his son, Harry Chan and his daughter Shannon Chan and found satisfaction in being a resourceful handyman around the house, his passion for singing with his friends at parties through karaoke and his fascination with gardening and the outdoors. He loved being a good father to his children, watching the stampede parade every year, loved his duties as devout Roman Catholic and travelling to places such as Vancouver, Hawaii and back to The Philippines quite a bit. Rolando was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in March 2020 but cared for until the very end by family members and the amazing AHS team responsible for him. Rolando will always be remembered as a hardworking and simply benevolent human being from everyone around him as God wills him to be deemed a Christmas Angel watching vigilantly over his family and friends.

Personal Message from his family:
Delia Chan, Wife.
You were and always will be a loving husband to me and father to our two kids. Your smile when you are with your friends as well brilliant and timeless. Love should be unconditional but yours is beyond that. It is infinite. Thank you for your superhuman patience and understanding in every facet of life. I love you with all my heart. Until we meet again.

Harry Chan, Son.
Papa you were always teaching me to be a man and be responsible everyday. Nothing can describe how kind and compassionate you are as well as hardworking and tough. I will always cherish my memories and lessons you left me from taking me out everywhere as a kid to reminding me to eat a million times a day. You have spoiled me and left me with a part of your legacy. I am sad you do not get to see me grow up into a greater man physically, but I know you are watching me up there and that completes me. I will be reunited with you soon enough without pain or suffering replaced with vigor and joy. I love you enough for 1000 lifetimes.

Shannon Chan, Daughter.
You were my hero, Dad. You made me who I am today – strong, caring, empathetic and helpful to those in our family, my friends and even to strangers. Your perseverance through every hard obstacle in life was something I always looked up to. Everything was always done with a smile - you never complained, and I admired that very much. I will miss your boisterous laugh, your words of encouragement and motivation that will stick with me everyday. I will always keep you in my thoughts and prayers for you are with me wherever I go. I will love you forever, my Christmas angel, my protector, my dad.
