My heart is broken to hear of the passing of Paul. He had much to do with my career and was a true friend to myself and the Rogalski clan for decades. My thoughts are with his family at this time. He will be greatly missed.
Our condolence to the family of Paul.
I was very sad to find out that Paul has passed away. Paul was one of our best friends and colleagues.
We would have loved to say good bye to him, sadly it did not happen.
We had many years of great friendship and fun together at the Banff Springs and mostly in the cabin in Canmore. We can still remember all those crazy rides we took in the old pickup and the many, many games of crib and poker at the cabin, usually followed by a great meal prepared by Paul. We dearly miss both of them, Norma and Paul.
Paul was my best support at the Banff Springs when I was looking for chefs. There were never enough of them available, but he always came through with his instructors to help me out.
The Hospitality industry has lost a great supporter in Paul and he will be missed.
We wish the family all the best
Kurt and Jo-Anne Amsler
Cindy & Peter,
Paul was such a kind and generous man, I can remember being a new member of the Chaine and Paul taking the time to welcome Tracie and I personally. He set such a great example you are fortunate to have had such a fine Father.
Regards,
Joe Scorgie

My Condolences to Mila,(sister) Norman and Cindy (children) and families of Chef Paul.
Even though I do not know all of you personally, I want to send my sympathy to everyone.
I was a "mature" student in the Culinary Arts program at SAIT from 1982-84. It was a very special time of my life and one of the best things I could have done for myself. During those two years I was encouraged by many Chefs/Instructors but also by Chef Paul. He always spoke to me (and all students) with respect, enthusiasm, and encouragement. Because of Chef Paul's support he was instrumental in my graduating with honors and also getting a special position working in Calgary as a private chef (long before private chef's were the norm!) I shall always be grateful for Chef Paul's attitude towards all students and their progress in their chosen field of work. You can be proud of your brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he made a good contribution to the culinary world and was credit to SAIT.
Sincerely, Sheila Dexter
To Paul’s family, from the Kohl family, Werner, Patty and Tom: please accept our most heartfelt condolences on Paul’s passing. We’ll always remember Paul as a friendly and sociable man. He was an institution in the Calgary culinary community, and there are many in the culinary family who have benefitted from Paul’s experience and wisdom.
We wish the family all the strength they’ll need in the coming days, weeks and months.
Norm! Sorry to hear of your father's passing. I met him only briefly when we were in school together and recognize the influence he had in your career choice. Your father clearly had a significant impact on the city, SAIT, and the entire community.
All the best to you.
Brad Trumble
Hello Cindy and Peter --- truly sorry to hear the passing of your dad. A special man who was always around. Remember him walking through the kitchens at SAIT and for good reason. He was a Chef and Foodie. He always said hello and I would make a b-line to say hello. He never ever forgot your name and said hello asking how I was and about our family. He left a legacy at SAIT and with the Calgary Chefs. Always well dressed, a class act but mostly a kind loving man. Saying a prayer for Paul and the family. Sean and Angela Toner (FRIENDS)
I was saddened to hear of Paul's passing and send the family my deepest condolences. It was a privilege to know Paul over the last the last 40 years and it was always a pleasure when he would stop in the kitchen at La Chaumiere to say hello and chat with the team. Paul's culinary legacy will continue to live in the community amongst the people he worked with, mentored and inspired.

We were so sorry to hear of the passing of Paul. He was very influential in mentoring many young professionals in the Food and Beverage industry including myself. Our deepest sympathies go out to Norm, Cindy and the entire Mastalir family during this difficult time. Take Care.

As a neophyte Food Service supplier in the late 1970’’s I was introduced to Paul, who was Dean of the Hospitality Careers Department at SAIT. He immediately toured me around in his Department and introduced me to all his Chef Instructors, giving me a base of contacts for my career.
Paul was always a gentleman Educator, and I valued his friendship over the years.
The success of the Hospitality Careers Department at SAIT and it’’s great reputation in North America, is due to Paul, whose numerous students over many years have him to thank for their successes.
My Condolences to the Family. Jack Reed
So saddened to learn of the passing of Paul. He was a friend and mentor to many over the years. I first got to know him as the head of the culinary department at Sait as a student and later as an instructor. He was always forward thinking and can be characterized as a builder on so many levels as attested to by his many accomplishments.
On behalf of the Calgary Academy of Chefs and Cooks, of which he was a founder, and personally, please accept our sincere condolences.

Please accept my sincere condolences on your loss. What a privilege for our community to have the benefit of Paul's amazing vision and commitment - a legacy to be proud of.
To Paul's Family, Please accept my deepest sympathy on your loss. Paul was my delightful next door neighbour at our Retirement Residence for 3 years....how lucky for me. He always had a happy smile and greeting as we walked in our corridors, and he was so often dressed smartly in a crisp white shirt to present his image of the best dressed gentleman in our home. He was so humble and modest. He will is missed here. Rest in Peace Paul.

Cindy, Norm and families. I was saddened to hear of you father’s passing this morning. Mr. Mastalir’s contributions to the culinary community will never been forgotten. I remember him first as an instructor at SAIT when Norm and I were students. Even then, I knew that he was a force within the culinary community. It was also nice to see him return for social functions at SAIT after his retirement.
May all the wonderful memories you have of your father sustain you in the coming days as you deal with your grief. My heart goes out to all of you.
Jona Way
My sincere condolences to the entire Mastalir family, in your time of sorrow.
Paul was such a great man, gentle, firm, resourceful, accommodating, friendly, dedicated, giving and wonderful example to so many. As a former SAIT graduate and food service professional, I personally had such huge respect for this man, as his leadership through example was a model for us all.
Over the years, I had many occasions to visit with Paul in various scenario's, and each and every time, he left me feeling positive, supported in our demanding industry. His knowledge and friendship will be greatly missed. I will also miss those days of having a quick coffee with Paul at Westhills A&W, where later in life he visited frequently.
RIP Mr. Mastalir, and know your legacy will live on through all of us that new him.
Again my heart felt sympathy and respect for who and what this great man truly meant to so many of us.
Respectfully,
Alfred Saunders
Norman and Family,
Cecile and I are sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. While I didn't know him personally, I heard many fine comments about him through the years. I'm sure you and your family members will have many fond memories of a life well lived. Our condolences to all.
-Johnny Thorson
Paul always reminded me of a man out of Emilly Dickson's era. He was always quietly reserved, polite and very knowledgeable. I know he will be missed by Cindy and Norman but he will live in your hearts forever.
-Allison
