Obituary of June Lorraine DAVIS (nee Tricker)

August 8, 1932 – Swalwell, Alberta
January 5, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

June Lorraine Davis, our cherished mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister and aunt passed away in Calgary, AB on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at the age of 88 years.

Growing up in rural Alberta, June didn’t have access to many books but she loved to read. Moving to Calgary at the young age of 17, June was in awe of libraries and the ease of which she could access books. She continued to enjoy reading until her eyesight started to fade many years later.

June’s love story with Bill began after a blind date arranged by a mutual friend. Their blended family became one when they married in 1979.

With Bill travelling for work, June frequently surprised him with a newly wallpapered room when he returned home. Weekends were spent searching garage sales, lovingly referred to as exchange sales by Bill, for the perfect household item or toy for the grandkids.

June loved her family. She looked forward to family reunions (known as the Hannu Games) and often checked in with the kids and grandkids just to see how everyone was doing.

June retired from her career in the Banking world at the age of 55. Her and Bill enjoyed spending winters in Nevada, forming many treasured friendships over the years. She loved the lights on the strips in Laughlin and Vegas and her royal flush winning streak was the envy of many. Their love of travel led them to Cruise through the Panama Canal, Caribbean, Alaska and the West Coast. Spending a month in Mexico with friends was also a fond memory.

Music and dancing held a special spot in June’s heart. Music could be heard in every room in the house, sometimes even from different radio stations. She delighted in dancing with Bill and watching the Lawrence Welk show.

June will always hold a special place in the hearts of her three children, Rob (Cathi) Gunn, Cheri Boyd, Ross (Jan) Davis; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Dale in Ontario.

June lost her beloved Bill in 2012. Moving into Legacy Estates, she met Stella who would become her best friend. They played cards and dice and dressed up for the many special events and functions that Legacy Estates hosted.

Although our family is heartbroken, we know June will be forever dancing with her soul mate as Light up my Life plays in the background.

A Celebration of June’s Life will be held at a later date. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on June’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

In living memory of June Davis, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.
