Obituary of Irby (Ade) CECIL

March 17, 1947 – Morley, Alberta
January 7, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with profound sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Irby (Ade) Cecil at his home on Thursday, January 7, 2021.

Ade was born on March 17, 1947 in Morley.  He received his education at Morley Residential School.  He earned his General Education Diploma, also received Basic Counselor Training Program (1984), Wesley Community Leadership Program Certificate (2003).  Ade was always an active person and in his younger years he enjoyed being a horseman and tried his hand in the sport of Rodeo.  He played hockey with Bow Valley Rangers, also played baseball and was a Coach in 1980.  He was a School Bus Driver in the 1970s, He was Transportation Driver for Stoney Health Centre and Wesley Band Elders liaison. He was a hard worker and a man of tremendous strength and was also in a leadership position as a Counselor for Wesley Band in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s.

Ade was always there for his children and when he became a grandfather he loved all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren to the fullest, as well as special granddaughter Tyrena Cecil, and adopted granddaughter Chantel Twoyoungmen. 

A true Warrior has finished his journey here with us and left his Legacy “devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather family man and hardworking contribution to the Stoney Community.  

He was loved, cherished and will be remembered by his children, Cedric (Rachel), Vernon (Jerita), Myrna; brothers, John Wesley, Frank Cecil, Marvin Bigstoney; sisters, Melvalene (Justin), Sylvia (Gordon), Nelda; adopted sister Yolanda Bigstoney, cousin Bruce Wesley Beaver, nephews and nieces, Vernon, Scotty (Trudy), Randall (Cynthia), Keith (Jubileen), Alnora, Bernadine(Charles), Diandra, Dalroy, Cassandra, Ursula, Amanda; mother-in-law Winnie Francis; and sisters-in-law, Martha, Irene, Colleen.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Marcus, Dylan, Elvy, Chase, Mason, Zyon, Travin, Tyvin, Jada, Kassidy, Destiny, Arihanna, Mila, Tayia, Candace, Jan, Tyrena, Kashaye, Nora; great-grandchildren, Alnicia, Ezra, Jayden, Kree, Skylar, Randy, Aaden, Elias, Decimus, Joyleen, Ahniel, Lylen, Keona, Aria, Lilyanne,  Daykian, Dayla, Xzayvien, Azra, Colvin. 

He is also survived by families from Amos, Beaver, Benjamin, Bigstoney, Brown, Cecil, Dixon, Francis, Holloway, Hunter, Lefthand, Mackinaw, Mark, Poucette, Powderface, Rabbit, Snow, Twoyoungmen, Wesley, Wildman, Crawler, Salter, 

We apologize if we have missed anyone as he had many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and family members including those from Big Horn, Eden Valley, Maskwacis, and Morley.

He will be missed by all as he journeys to the Spirit world to be with our Creator and family gone before us.

He was predeceased by his wife Marilyn (2000),parents Gordon (1992), Evelyn (1989); son Spoodee (Shelley)  (2016), nephew Arvid (2020), daughter Jenny Hunter (2020),brothers, David (June), Clarence (Margaret), Milan, Lloyd Bigstoney; granddaughter Lanicia Hunter, great-grandson Kaiden Hunter. Father and mothers-in-law, Joe Brown, Jessica Amos, Elizabeth (Henry), Alice (Arthur), May (Pierce), Cousins Roy Dixon, Shirley Dixon, Larry Brown, Pat Brown, Judea Beaver, Mary Goostoney, Doreen, Isaac, Claude.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Cochrane, 369 Railway Street, Cochrane, AB), on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Brown Cemetery (Morley, AB).  Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Irby’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
