Obituary of Emma FITTERER

Emma Fitterer, beloved wife of Adam Fitterer of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, January 15, 2021 at the age of 90 years.

Emma Fitterer (nee Kersch) was born in Schuler, AB, Canada on November 18, 1930. She married Adam Fitterer in Bassano, AB in the June of 1951. They were happily married for sixty-six years before Adam passed away in September 2017.

Emma had a passion for knitting, crocheting and various art-related activities. She also loved to bake, and was very well known for her holiday pies. There wasn’t dinner with her that didn’t include desert!

She enjoyed singing and dancing at family gatherings. She was a big fan of company and visiting and loved to be around family and friends that she was close to. 

Emma was a very competitive when it came to games and sports. There weren’t many activities that she wasn’t good at. She was the champion on many occasions at the bowling alley even with a handful of very competitive grandchildren. More recently she was honing her skills at the game of shuffleboard and there wasn’t a visit that didn’t include a friendly game.

Many of Emma’s summers were spent at the cabin at the Shuswap where she enjoyed extended visits with family and hosting reunions. The long summer days included lots of very good, very well thought out food that Emma was usually heading up, boat rides, bonfires, playing board games and crokinole, card games especially cribbage, shooting hoops and walks along the beach with her family.

Emma was predeceased by her loving husband Adam Fitterer. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Michael Hawryluk, of Calgary; her son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Diane Fitterer of Calgary; five grandchildren, Justin (Kendall) Hawryluk, Tyler Hawryluk, Dexter (Gillian) Hawryluk, Lisa (Theran) Yeo, Eric (Jade) Fitterer, and one great-grandchild, Brooks Yeo.

Emma is also survived by six sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Barb Kersch of Vancouver, BC, Delores Kersch of Manning, AB, Cecile Besplug of Saskatoon, SK, Aggie Berger of Medicine Hat, AB, Josie Fitterer of Medicine Hat, AB, Terry Plantz and Gerry Plantz of Olds, AB.  

Emma was also a loving great-grandmother to a number of four-legged tail-wagers in her more recent years; Chewy, Wickett, Tito, Indie, Bella, Rigsby and Zepher.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church (1600 Acadia Drive S.E., Calgary, AB) on Friday, January 22, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.  Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Emma’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
