I have just discovered Enid's Obituary which has greatly saddened my heart. My wife and I opened our home to Mel & Enid while we were living in Minnesota. What a wonderful couple and devoted to our Lord Jesus. We kept in contact with Enid for many years through Christmas Cards and she would always return interesting, newsy responses.

To each one of you it must be a great loss. One of my Sunday School teachers was Enid’s Mum. You paid attention and learned. Enid was such a warm and inviting hostess with the love of Jesus exuding from her words, hospitality and teaching. I was privileged to know Enid. Lord bless each one of you.
Enid had such a wonderful wonder & curiosity about life. I remember her enthusiasm about the small things & the big things. I believe her wonder was in keeping with her gratitude & love for her 'wonderful Lord. Enid was a brilliant light. She had an uncanny way of making lighting up the room. ❤❤❤ love Cheryl Sorell
Larry, we didn't know your Mom well, though we enjoyed every opportunity we had to be with her. Her eyes had a glow of Intelligence and humour. Her faithful service to the Kingdom of God will be revealed in Heaven for us all to share.
Mel & Enid inspired Rod and I to work with passion for God by loving others. They became known to our oldest 4 children as grandma & grandpa Slack. Enid became a mother mentor to me more seriously after my own mom died. The greatest advice I remember Enid telling me is, "being a mother and wife right now is your greatest job!". Thank you Enid! We had the privilege of living in their home for a couple months just prior to heading to the Philippines right after having our third child was born. The children had great times there and we were so blessed to get to know Mel & Enid even more.
We send our love and prayers to all the children & families of Enid & Me.

Linda and I enjoyed some special visits with Enid at Valley Ridge, always gracious in receiving visitors announced or impromptu Enid was a great conversationalist long into her nineties. We have missed these visits during COVID. Our condolences to the whole family! We will miss this wonderful Lady of God. Greg and Linda Irwin
Enid was our spiritual Mom. During our years with Venture teams she was such an encouragement and support. I, Carol, learned a lot about bread making in her kitchen. Such a gift of hospitality. Enid and Mel had an indullable impact on our lives for sure. A woman of great faith, an encourager, prayer warrior and a tremendous support to Mel in his ministry. We thank our Lord for the gift of Enid Slack in our lives.

My Daddy, Lorne Irwin, and Mel were summer evangelists during their years at Prophetic. I have a photo of them with their fishing poles outside a tent they had pitched while travelling about. Their friendship, along with wives Enid and Kathleen, was lifelong. In later years, my Mom had precious phone visits with Enid, both of them blessed with mental acuteness. I treasure childhood memories of Enid and Mel in our home, his response to my $5 allowance donation to India outreach, and seeing them both at Berean alumni events. I am so thankful for Enid as she was truly a support to Mel, her family, friends and multiple people blessed to know her. My family were one of those blessed ones.
I'm full of thankfulness that Enid could say with Paul, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." What an example of faithfulness she was and I'm honored to have known her.

The impact of Mel and Enid's life on our own cannot be overstated. From the day I first sat in their living room in the fall of 1978 and heard the stories of India, until the present day...God has used this remarkable couple to shape our lives. There are far too many good memories, that I would not even know where to begin. Riding on trains across India in 1979-1980 on the first Friends and Followers teams; Mel officiating at our wedding; or many visits in their home while passing through Calgary.
Enid remained such a loyal friend and prayer warrior after Mel passed into glory. Her keen commitment to follow our ministry and intercede before the Father for us have strengthened us in ways only heaven will finally reveal. Our lives have been forever changed because of Enid. Her long obedience to Jesus Christ has left its indelible mark on not only us, but many others throughout the world. We thank God for Enid's life, and look forward to the day we see her again when Jesus returns!

We know our dear friend, Enid, is now in a much better place, but she will surely leave a large gap in the life of your family. She was classy, smart, witty and a great encourager especially of those in missions. We will miss her generous spirit, the twinkle in her eye when she smiled, and her substantive emails (she was almost always the first to respond to our email newsletters). We send our love and condolences to all the family as we sorrow but not "as others who have no hope".
Warmly,
Brian & Mary Cummins
With fond memories and heartfelt condolences, I offer my/Cheryl's warm sympathies to the entire Slack family on the passing of Enid into glory. She will be remembered for her quiet and yet confident faith, her wise words of counsel, her heart for world missions, and her deep love for her Lord, husband Mel, family, and church. Enid was a role model to so many, myself included, on how to mix and balance godliness with contentment, conviction with compassion, and courage with humility. May her family be comforted with God's presence, our Lord's Gospel, and His promise that "to be absent from the body is to be at home with the Lord" (2 Cor.5:8).
Peace and grace be with you all,
-Pastor Maury/Cheryl McNeil.
