Obituary of Rigmor MADSEN (nee Nielsen)

September 22, 1932 – Olgod, Denmark
January 18, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Rigmor Madsen, beloved wife of Hans Madsen, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, January 18, 2021, at the age of 88 years.

Rigmor was born in Olgod, Denmark on September 22, 1932. After training and working as a nurse in Greenland, Rigmor married Hans in 1956. They immigrated to Canada, settled in Calgary, AB and became Canadian Citizens in 1964. Both Rigmor and Hans were life-long patrons and supporters of Calgary’s Danish Canadian Club and Rigmor worked for a time at the club's Mermaid Inn in the early ’70s.  Several people will remember the “Shirley Temples” they would get as children when coming to visit Rigmor at work. An accomplished homemaker, Rigmor was particularly proud of her garden and house. She also shared her gardening expertise as a volunteer for the Colonel Belcher gardening program. An expert at needlework, cross-stitch and crochet, Rigmor also loved classical music, swimming and travelling. Rigmor will be most remembered for her smile and wry sense of humour.

Besides her loving husband Hans, Rigmor is survived by the Pedersen family, the Volf family and many friends.

Condolences, memories, and photos may also be shared and viewed on Rigmor’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com. A Spring Memorial Service for Rigmor will be announced here as well.

Hans would like to thank Alberta Health Services, Colonel Belcher, and Rigmor’s friend Ellie and neighbours from Penworth Crescent; Kaylee, Dustin, Laura and Bryce.

In living memory of Rigmor Madsen, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, CALGARY, AB T2E 2V6, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
