Obituary of Catherine WILK

July 9, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta
Catherine Wilk (nee Paterson) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at the age of 95 years.
Catherine (Cathie) was born in Aberdeen, Scotland on January 6, 1924. She was the eldest of six children; Donald, Sarah (William Lamb), Arthur (Meg), Mary Lees (Gordon Calder) and Alexina (Alexander Lumsden), (aka Sunny and Sandy).
She joined the British Royal Air Force in 1942 and served in the British Balloon Command. She immigrated to Canada on October 13, 1952 with her husband Leon Wilk and eldest daughter Kathleen. Elizabeth and Margaret, along with Kathleen were then raised when they settled in Calgary. Catherine accomplished much through her life and was particularly proud of her family. Catherine is lovingly remembered by her three daughters; Kathleen Kulpas of Vancouver, Elizabeth Cooper and Margaret Engel (Tim) of Okotoks.
She is survived by her Grandchildren; Paul Kulpas (Echo, children Spencer and Violet), Rebecca Holifield (John, child Gunnar), Matthew Cooper (Crystal and children Emma and Caylee), Nathan Cooper (child Keira), Amber Lomheim (David, children Aurora and Malloy), Ryan Engel (Sheena, children Rhett and Kerrington) and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Catherine was predeceased by her Daughter Elizabeth Cooper, Son in law Tim Engel, Husband Leon Wilk, Brothers; Donald Paterson, Arthur Paterson and Brother In-law William Lamb.
Catherine’s love of life included: music, singing, dancing, reading, scrabble, travel and an unending search for knowledge. Her fondest memories can be found in her collection of photographs taken throughout her life’s journey. She will be fondly remembered for her adages such as “Cheerio”, “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do”, “See you at the flood, mind your bathing suit”, and “Be good to yourself”.

At Catherine’s request, there will be no service. In her letter she wished to send a “goodbye and thanks” to family, friends and neighbours.
