Obituary of Kenneth "Ken" TAYLOR

September 21, 1944 – Toronto, Ontario
January 25, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Kenneth Taylor of Didsbury, AB, on Monday, January 25, 2021 at the South Health Campus, in Calgary. AB.  Ken passed away with his sister, Sharon at his side following month duration in the hospital.

Ken grew up on the family farm in Arborg, MB, and following a short term in the Canadian Air Force, spent most of his adult life in Alberta as he loved the West and its’ mountains.

Ken was the successful and proud owner/operator of a long haul trucking company. Ken’s “open road” sense of adventure and love of travel took him all over North America from the southern US border to Alaska and from the Pacific Coast to the Atlantic Coast. This travel brought forth his love and passion for the Rocky Mountains with its’ scenic lakes, crystal clear rivers and cascading waterfalls.

Ken was very proud of his exemplary driving record during his long and professional driving career. Upon retirement Ken settled in Didsbury, AB, where he developed many warm friendships.

Ken was an active and vibrant member of the Adult Day Program, Didsbury Five-O Club and the Legion, to name a few. Ken’s jovial manner and hearty laugh will be missed by everyone. He enjoyed swimming and the aquatics program; he was also a very competitive crib player, and an avid sports fan, especially the Edmonton, Eskimos, Toronto Blue Jays and Dallas Cowboys.
Ken was a voracious reader and amassed a library of hundreds of books, which were joyously received by the friends of the Didsbury Library as per Ken’s wishes.  A dedicated and diligent jigsaw puzzler, Ken spent many happy hours putting together beautiful pieces of art, many of which were mounted and given to friends.

Ken is survived by his sisters, Sandra (Wally), and Sharon (Phil) and his brother, Dennis (Maureen). Also left to mourn are his son Mark (Shirley); grandchildren, Sara and Jordan, and daughter Candace; grandchildren, Brittany and Adrian, and two great-grandchildren, Riley and Mason.

Ken was predeceased by his father Emil in 2000 and his mother Lillian in 2003.

A private viewing and cremation has been held for family members only at McInnis and Holloway Funeral Homes (Deerfoot South Location). There will not be a service at this time due to Covid-19 restrictions. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Ken’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

The family would like to thank Ken’s health caregivers and friends, especially Kim, Heather, and Brandee for their steadfast loyalty, and tireless dedication and excellent care of Ken over the last few years.  Ken often expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the wonderful and professional care provided to him by these diligent people, who Ken came to think of, not only as health care professionals, but as true friends. Ken’s many Didsbury friends, especially Richard, Rene and Diana, also were an important part of Ken’s life and provided loving care and fellowship enriching Kens’ life.  A deep felt thank you goes out to the South Calgary Health Campus staff in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).  The truly exceptional care and service to Ken during his month long stay in the ICU by all the members working here is a true testament to their calling of care and compassion in the Health Care Industry.
