Condolences
I heard the news of Gerry’s death with sadness. He was one of those unique people you feel blessed to have met. I worked with Gerry and enjoyed time spent talking with him, appreciating his wonderful sense of humour. Field trips were fun because we would talk about everything but work and his way of seeing things was so much broader than mine. I recall him saying he was a circular thinker and I agree he saw most everything from every possible angle.
Gerry was a much loved man and I hope his friends and family will be comforted by the memories of happiness and joy he brought into their lives.
Sincerely,
Heid Evensen
I met Gerry as one of the volunteers of the original PG Folk fest outdoor weekend concerts. He was "the money" man, in charge of picking up cash bundles, and running them to the bank. He was a calm force in those days of crazy schedules and unorganized havoc. It was his calmness in the face of crazy, that kept me from coming unstrung. Subsequently we met at the Hofmann house and shared stories and opinions of our festival duties and one topic led to another. I became close friends with Marion and Gerry, shared many meals, with his dad there too. We had German parents in common, and food, and stamps, books and rocks. I also moon over rocks, I the am lucky owner of one of Gerry's rocks. Thank you Gerry, a treasure in my garden. He was truly a loving husband, and a wonderful man to his family. Knowing him was my pleasure. Maureen Beier
To Marion and family, I want to offer my deepest condolences on the loss of your husband, father and grandfather. He has gone way too soon. Having lost my dear husband just four days earlier, I do know what you are feeling.
With us living down the hall, Gerry and I had many opportunities to chat - picking up our newspapers or just in the corridor. It was always a pleasure to see him - we talked about so many different subjects. I also saw him out our window, going to or from his red car, sometimes obviously enjoying being with grandchildren.
Regards,
Marguerite Fenyvesi
Gerry was a much loved husband, father and grandfather. He was a kind, gentle, humble, humourous, intelligent, astute man who lived his life fully. Gerry and Marion were as one. I remember one particular story fondly the excited Marion seeing me saying she was going to pick up Gerry from work on his 50th birthday. She was beside herself with the anticipation! She had bought tickets to take Gerry to see the Rolling Stones! No doubt Gerry was pleased! So off they went straight from work, luggage in hand, driving the 600+ kilometres to the venue! Marion and Family, our deepest sympathy to you all on the unexpected loss of Gerry. Our hearts are with you. Love from The Beattie Family.
