Obituary of Shirley Marlene TEASDALE

October 17, 1940 – Prince Albert, Saskatchewan
February 7, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with Great Sadness that we say Goodbye to Our Beautiful Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Friend and Teacher. Shirley passed away peacefully at home, Sunday, February 7, 2021.

Shirley will be sadly missed by her surviving family, her son Craig (Val) Jansen and grandchildren, Angela, Luke, and Ali; and her daughter Rene Jansen (Paul Healy) and her granddaughter Maya. Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Margaret (Bridge) LaRoche; stepmother Ellen Braeger, her sister Joyce, brothers, Vernon and Hebert; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and many other special people.

Shirley was born on October 17, 1940 in Prince Albert. After what she describes as a wonderful childhood, her dream was to get an education. After achieving that, she started her first teaching position in Watson, SK. While teaching there she met her first husband, Glen Jansen, who she married in 1963. She maintained a loving relationship with the Jansen family and became lifelong friends with the family, who were always there to help and support her. In 1968, she moved her young family from Prince Albert to Calgary to start a new life. She started teaching in Calgary where she remained until she retired in 1995. Her favorite quote and a reflection of the life she lived, was once said to her by one of her students, “You’re tough Mrs. Teasdale but you are fair.” Shirley’s greatest passion in life was helping children find success, as well as providing a wonderful life for her family. She raised her two children in a wonderful home which she bought new in 1971. She supplied her children with all they needed to succeed. She was blessed with four grandchildren. In 1984 Mom married Rodger Teasdale and gained a daughter, Chantal Teasdale. Shirley and Rodger moved into a beautiful home which was often filled with family and friends gathering for coffee, drinks, and laughter. These years afforded Mom to take up golf, travel and leisure. This gave Mom the travel bug and through the years, she travelled extensively with brothers and sisters to many countries in the world. Among her favourites for their beauty, were Africa and Italy. She also enjoyed her travels through China, New Zealand, Australia and more. In 2005, downtown Calgary was her final home. She loved living in the downtown area, where she could walk almost anywhere. She had a passion for walking and on most days did her 10,000 steps a day, right up to December 2020. Mom celebrated her 75th birthday five years ago arranged by her loving daughter and best friend Rene. Mom and Rene spent many days going for lunch, shopping and just generally enjoying each other’s company for many years. Her 75th birthday was a wonderful weekend spent in Banff with many friends and relatives that joined her and her family. She was so surprised and happy as the room was filled with laughter, love and pure joy. Mom’s 80th birthday was spent in Turner Valley but due to Covid, was more of small come and go day. Mom was a kind, generous, gentle soul who loved her family at all times, unconditionally. Mom had a special connection to many people which we discovered through her last days.

Special Gratitude to Debbie Hoey for her Care, Guidance, Love and Support. She is Greatly Appreciated. Also, thank you to the Palliative Care Nurses. God Bless You All and those who knew her. She will always be Loved and Cherished.

A Private Funeral Mass will be held. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed on Shirley’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CKUA Radio, https://ckua.com/ a Public Broadcaster that played many songs she enjoyed every Sunday.
