February 11, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Jessie Harper Laverick of Calgary, AB passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at the age of 99 years.

Jessie was born in Musselborough, Scotland on June 27, 1921 and immigrated to Canada in 1924 with her parents and brother, settling in South Calgary. Jessie resided in the South Calgary area for ninety seven years until moving to the Prominence Way in 2019.

Jessie married Penny in September 1943 and for the next forty years they were very involved with the Calgary Historical Society and through Penny, an Alberta artist, with the Calgary Sketch Club. They spent most weekends camping in the remote Alberta Foothills and on sketching outings with their close friends, Roland Gissing and Matt Linstrom.

After Penny’s death, Jessie spent many years volunteering with her best friend Faye Mortimer at Meals on Wheels, YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre - first working in the archives and later at the Interpretative Center, Lunch Box Theater, Alberta Breast Cancer Screening Program, and various YWCA programs. Jessie loved politics and spent a lifetime volunteering in civic, provincial and federal elections where she made many lifelong friendships.

Jessie was a woman who embraced life with great enthusiasm and positive optimism and was always active and very social. She loved to travel, loved her work and loved to volunteer.

Jessie is survived by her nieces, Judy (Minoru Ueda) and Lynda (Steven Conway). She was predeceased by her husband LC (Penny) Laverick, her sister Rose (Bob Baxter), and her brother William Hamilton.
