Condolences
Hi Glenna...nice to read about your lovely mother, Joan, in the Kelowna Courier. She had a long, good life with a good family and especially a talented daughter like you. (Peter & I still appreciate your stained glass that we have in our kitchen...thanks). Here's to your mother from who you got your love of the snowy slopes.
cheers Pat Munro & Peter Chataway
Dear Nancy, David and Glenna
I have such wonderful memories of your Mom and Dad along with the Ferguson's and Sargent's at the Shaver's house for the evening of bridge. The kids were encouraged to hang around and visit with all before being sent to watch television so the parents could play their serious games of bridge. Their laughter was so loud I have often wondered just how much bridge they actually played!
In the years since your father and my Mom have passed, your mother was on my Dad's call list every two weeks. She held a very special place in my Dad's heart and their conversations really brought him joy after Pat died.
You were so very lucky to have had such a special lady in your lives for such a long time.
Thinking of you all and sending you lots of love.
Nancy Shaver-LeForte
Nancy, Dave, Glenna...hard to know where to start...so many great memories with Turnbulls, Shavers, Fergusons, Sargents...and your dear mom at the centre of them! Whether Montreal, Toronto, Maine, Florida or Grey Rocks, with the warm smile and a voice that melted the heart. I always loved receiving her type-written notes, where she never shied away from expressing love and sharing her memories. I remember having your mom and dad in with the Shavers for dinner one night. I had mom's old photo albums and I was deliriously happy watching them reminisce. Your mom inspired us with that smile, affection, and love of life - right through to the end. Thank you for sharing her! My heart goes out to you as she embarks on the next part of her journey. Sending you love....Heather xoxo
I am a lucky lady as "Aunt Joan" was my Godmother, she took this role very seriously and had such a genuine way of making me feel special. Every birthday she would show up with a new silver charm for my charm bracelet, she knew me well. Some of the charms include a ballerina, skier, a telephone, suitcase and many more, this is a gift I treasure to this day. Our mother, Millie and Joan were friends from Kindergarten and remained close until our mother passed away in 1978. Joan and my mother were part of the same Ladies Bridge Night. I am not sure how much bridge was played as there was always lots of chatter and laughter. On these nights Aunt Joan never failed to bring Laura Secord chocolate lollipops for my sister Heather and I. Once again making us feel special. I was lucky enough to have spent a whole week in the late 70's at the Turnbull house on Fifeshire, it was a difficult time for me and Bob and Joan kept everything busy, positive and fun. We even went to see Cher and talked about the costumes all the way home and the next day. It was not just a friendship of the parents, but as families we met for family picnics, enjoyed family barbecues and even travelled (40 of us) to Florida in 1976. To say this wonderful woman had an impact on my life does not begin to demonstrate how truly lovely I believe and know she was. Heaven has certainly taken back one of its most treasured angels.
To all of the family, you are in my thoughts and prayers
With love
Judy Collins (Sargent)
I had the great pleasure of getting to know both of Joan and Bob Turnbull well in my younger years. And the Newfy connection made us kindred spirits. Joan certainly lived a full life. With Glenna being one of my best friends back in the day and still today, Joan treated me as part of the family back in Montreal. She had such a gentle soul. I have such fond memories of Joan. My heart and thoughts out to the entire Turnbull family. Cherish the memories.
Good early morning from Montreal. My sincere sympathy on the loss of your mom. I wanted to share a memory if you don't mind.
In 1975 we were a young couple with two very small kiddies ....we moved in the springtime to 690 47 th Ave in Lachine.
'Right across the street' from us, were Bert and Marguerite Colton. Two of the loveliest people one could ever meet.
At the time I didn't realize just how elderly they were, as my own mom today is 91. Mr. Colton was the most polite gentlemen
I have ever met, to this day. He would 'tip his hat' when he saw me outside and he was off for his daily walk. Mrs. Colton
Was a quiet lady, Bert was chattier...lol.....we had several little conversations from lawn to lawn...which I always enjoyed.
I'm very sorry to read about your family's recent loss....she will be very well met in heaven by her parents you can be sure
Thanks for letting me share my memory...sincerely, Colleen Pearce, Kirkland, Qc
