Obituary of James (Jim) Thomas REMINGTON

February 13, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

James Thomas Remington, beloved husband of Islay Mildred Remington of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at the age of 96 years.

Jim was born in Hoards Station, Ontario, Canada on April 26, 1924.  He moved to Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 1949.

Jim married Islay Gray in 1950.

He joined the Lord Strathcona Horse Tank Division and was stationed in Regina, Saskatchewan, London, Ontario, and Calgary, Alberta. During his military career, (1943 to 1974), he was a tank commander at the Korean Conflict, was posted to the Gaza Strip in Egypt and later to Cypress as a member of the United Nations Peace Keeping Force.

He was a member of the Korean War Veterans.

Jim’s favourite saying was “It’s only a game” when commenting on an unfavourable result from a local sports team. He followed his doctor’s advice and stayed active walking for years through Glenmore Park. He volunteered many years at the local food bank.

Besides his loving wife, James is survived by his four sons, David (Cindy), John (Evelyn), Robert (Jane) and Mark; his eight grandchildren, Serra, Matthew, Tyler, Trevor, Brian, Scott, Krysta and Mackenzie. He also had seven great-grandchildren, Maxwell, Meredith, Charlotte, Penelope, Josie, Sadie and Piper.

James was predeceased by his parents, Fredrick and Agnes; his five brothers, Harold, Wesley, Howard, Earl and Stewart and his two sisters, Barbara and Jean.
