Obituary of Karen Lynn “Jay” POWDERFACE

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister, half-sister, grandmother, aunt, niece, cousin and best friend, Karen Lynn “Jay” Powderface after a lengthy battle with cancer, on February 10, 2021 at the age of 49 years.

Karen will be remembered for her tremendous love and devotion to those she loved dearly to her heart. Karen enjoyed outdoor activities at an early age such as camping, berry picking, beading, making dry meat and horseback riding, she acted a role in The Revenant. She was employed at the Chiniki Gas Bar and Stoney Nakoda Resort for several years. She received her education at Morley Community School, at an early age she started her family whom she loved dearly. 

Karen is survived by her sons, Joey (Debbie), Brandon, Seth, and Stormy; her siblings, Sherry, Murphy, Lorianne (Lawrence), and Bernadine; special niece whom she grew up with, Glenna Powderface; her half-siblings, Gilbert (Florine), Winnie (Ernie), Lloyd, Brenda (Morley), Marty, and Charlene (Clarence); her grandchildren, Aaron Powderface, Cobain Dixon, Victor Dean, Robbie, Neeka, Neoma, Tobias, Neamo, Ocean, JaNiyalee, and Alijah; her adopted brother Wayne Moonais; aunts, Gwen Rider, Lavina Brown and Barbara Hunter; her uncles, Jeff Hunter (Evelyn) and Irvin Rabbit (Linda); her cousins, Delphine Rider, Alvin Young; and nephew Van (Eva). She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends from Morley, Bighorn, Eden Valley, Tsuu Tina, Maskwacis and Siksika. We apologize if we have missed anyone.

Karen was predeceased by her only daughter Niomi Powderface, mother Stella Powderface, father Roger Bearspaw; grandson Braden Dixon, granddaughter Arya; Aunt May Bigcrow; siblings, Loretta Bonita, Ralphine, Herbert, Sidney and Peter; her half-siblings, Lily Poucette, Gwen, and Evelina Bearspaw; grandfather Johnny Powderface Sr.; her uncle and aunt Frank (Caroline) Powderface and Florence Twoyoungmen; cousins, Gerald (Velma) Powderface Clifford, Williard, Norma, Virginia (Raymond) Russell, and Harvey.

Jay Powderface will be remembered by those who knew and loved her. Remember life is fragile and short and should be lived to the fullest with love. 

The family would like to thank the Stoney Health homecare workers and the Stoney health transportation for their devoted care to Karen.
