Obituary of Maria ‘Rita’ Theresia BINZER (nee Redelberger)

Marie ‘Rita’ Binzer (nee Redelberger), beloved wife of Helmut Binzer, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at the age of 87 years.

Rita was born in Bad Ems, Germany on February 17, 1933. She married her husband Helmut in 1955 and they started their family.

In 1963 they decided to move their family to Canada. After a ten-day journey on the ship Arcadia, they landed in Quebec on May 18, 1963.  They moved around Canada from Regina, SK, to Cornerbrook, Newfoundland, to Edmonton, AB, to Vancouver, BC, before they finally settled in Calgary, AB, in 1974.

Rita worked in the hospitality industry once the family was settled in Calgary until she decided to retire. Although she enjoyed her work, nothing brought Rita more joy than spending time with her family.  She took so much pride in watching her grandchildren grow into successful adults. In recent years she also had the pleasure of knowing four great-grandchildren.  Rita always had a big heart for animals.  She had many pets of her own over the years, but she also loved all the dogs, cats, lizards, birds and, most recently, horses and donkeys in the family. Rita always made sure the family including all the animals, were well fed and taken care of. Rita’s love and compassion for everyone she met will be deeply missed by the people who had the honour to receive it.

Rita is survived by her two daughters, Elenore and Andrea, one son-in-law Mike, one son Hans; five grandchildren, Michael (Hilary), Katrina (Curtis), Christopher (Mylène), Dylan (Priscilla) and Colton (Erica) and four great-grandchildren, Barrett, Parker, Cohen and Ruby.
