Obituary of Joc WITTNER

July 24, 1954 – Calgary, Alberta

February 11, 2021 - Rockyview County, Alberta

Jocelyn Wittner, of Rockyview County, AB, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at the age of 66 years.

Jocelyn was born in Calgary, on July 24, 1954. Who knew how much mischief had just been released upon the world! Jocelyn married her high school sweetheart, Ken Praud, in 1974. With a second try at love, she married Richard Wittner in 1981. She kept telling her current spouse that third time out, she was going to marry for money. She volunteered with AARC’s, Airdrie Ringette Association, and Ringette Alberta for many years. Jocelyn accomplished much through her life and was especially proud of her children and grandchildren. One of her nicknames was “The Out-Staminizer”, lovingly bestowed upon her by her neighbor, and she showed her courage, determination, and stamina in a long battle with cancer.

Jocelyn had a passion for many things; golfing, playing slow-pitch, swimming, playing games, and generally having fun, but her greatest passion was her family and friends. Her greatest skill was with children, and she was known as the “baby whisperer”. Jocelyn loved to travel and covered a lot of the globe; including England, Paris, Italy, China, Australia, Hawaii, Tahiti, and many Caribbean countries. She was famous for photo-bombing complete strangers and making instant friends, regardless of any language barrier.

One of Jocelyn’s favourite sayings was “life’s not fair, get over it” which she used to stop any arguments with her children. Another was “don’t get mad, get even”. And her form of getting even usually involved a hilarious prank.

Besides her loving husband Richard, Jocelyn is survived by her daughters, Kimberley (Luke) Mcleod, and Robin; son Cory (Ally), and grandchildren, Kaia, Colbi, and Kiera. Jocelyn is also survived by her father Bill Ward, brother Gerry (Val) Ward, and sister Janice Fox, as well as four sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Jocelyn was predeceased by her mother Winnefred, brother-in-law Ken Fox, and nephews, Sean Fox, and Kelly McCool.

A Private Funeral Service will be held on, Saturday, March 6, 2021, at 3:00 p.m., by invitation only. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331 - 29 Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 4N2 Telephone: 1 (866) 412-4222.  www.albertacancer.ca/memorial.  A Celebration of Life will happen at a later date.

In living memory of Jocelyn Wittner, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area
