Condolences
Dear Rose and Randy and the rest of the Ferrara family,
It is with heavy hearts that Michael and I have just learned of John's passing earlier this year. Although we lost touch (we now live in Nova Scotia) we often talk of John and how he helped us when we started our company.
We would like to share we sold the company in 2012 after running it for nearly 24 years. Our daughter Carolyn is now a surgeon in Oakville, Ontario having married in 2009 and we have 2 wonderful grandchildren. Before selling the company my own art career took off. I am busier than I can handle as a professional artist and as a teacher. Michael wrote and published a book on his experiences in running a small business and mentioned John - although not by name - as having given us an incredible start both financially and personally with so many words of wisdom. We both loved hearing his many amusing anecdotes of his experiences in business.
John was a rare and remarkable person that we both deeply respected. As we shared the same birthday - every year I would look him up to see if there was a way I could wish him via email or personally by phone. I lost all your contact information in the flood in 2013. We lived in Rideau then and took a serious hit with the floods. But have to admit this last year due to a number of events around that time, I did not seek to find a way to reach him. I did think of him however as I also know three other people that shared that same birthday. I think of all of them every year. For some reason that was meant to be because knowing of his passing would have definitely spoiled what turned out to be a very special birthday for me.
I am sure he has left a big gap in your family that will no doubt be felt this Christmas. I know he loved his family gatherings and he certainly loved sharing his love of Italian food - we were able to enjoy Rose's incredible cooking a few times. We particularly remember with fondness sharing a meal with him and Rose at his favourite Italian restaurant on 16th Avenue NW.
Warm wishes and our deepest sympathies to all of you. John was a remarkable person and holds a special place in our hearts and will be remembered forever.
Michael and Margaret Best
