Condolences
M ay she rest in peace after a long, full life, well-lived!
A ll her life, Margaret diligently applied herself to whatever was the task at hand. The only daughter, with three
brothers (Ross, d., Keith, d., and Eric (Inez) ), Margaret helped her mother Minnie run the household
for them and their father George.
R arely did she have free time when raising chickens with her husband Fred Gardner on their farm near the
hamlet of Swalwell AB.
G ladly, however, did she make many friends at Knox United Church in Three Hills AB and at Calgary's St.
Thomas United. An active member of the United Church Women, Margaret eagerly applied her
business skills for many years to keep things running smoothly at UCW meetings all over the
province. If you needed to get something done, Margaret was your gal!
A dored aunt of seven nieces and nephews and their families, Margaret enjoyed sharing stories with them
and was proud of all their accomplishments.
R iding north from Three Hills, Margaret never missed a weekly visit with her mother, then at St. Mary's Health
Care Centre in Trochu AB.
E ach year they were together, Margaret and John Mills welcomed friends and family - and their pets! - to their
home in the country near Cremona AB.
T ogether, Margaret and Marven Blakely later blended their households in Calgary's Northwest after Margaret
began driving Marven to St. Thomas United Church when his eyesight was failing. The church was
delighted when they exchanged vows on a snowy St. Valentine's Day.
I offer my condolences to Margaret's family and friends. I first met Margaret when she volunteered to help count the weekly offering at St. Thomas United Church. She was a wonderful lady with a bright smile. She will be missed by many, including her church family.
