Condolences
My thoughts are with the Winter family. Mary Joan attended Sacred Heart Elementary School for grades 8 and 9, 1963. I was a classmate all those years ago. I remember Mary Joan as a very happy, caring, athletic and smart girl. She was very well liked. Grades 10 to 12 she went to St. Mary’s Girl’s and I attended St. Mary’s Boy’s. She was a cheerleader. What an interesting career she had. Mary Joan would have been an awesome teacher, inspiring many of her students. I only knew Mary Joan as a friend back in elementary and high school. Rest In Peace.

Sara and Rosie, I thought again of your mom today as I printed off my Christmas card address labels and cried when I saw your mom’s name. Sweet Joni. I met you both briefly way back when your mom was doing art at U of C and she was the nurturing motherly figure to all of us students. That beautiful perma-smile on her face, her always accepting and non-judgemental persona giving some comfort to those of us who were living away from home for the first time as we stepped into these big life things happening – Joni was a treasure and a gift. What a sweetie, even inviting us to her Christmas party! She cared like none other, even when we didn’t see her and facebook was our only connection, and I’m so, so, deeply sorry that she’s gone. So thankful that the peace of Jesus is a real and tangible thing, and I pray that you feel his presence comforting you as Christmas approaches. I hope that through your pain, you can celebrate what an awesome mama you had and really look forward to seeing her again – He has promised us this! Take good care.
Sara and Rosie
I offer my sincerest condolences and sympathy to you both and your families. Losing a patent is never easy. Much love and light to you all

Dear Family
I got to know Joni at Keller Williams Realty where she started her real estate career. I loved her enthusium, love of people and desire to learn. Her contribution to our industry through her involvement with the board and her brokerage will be missed. Joni was an honest, hard working and dedicated woman – so sad to hear of her passing. Hugs and Prayers.
So Sincerely,

I was saddened to hear of Joni’s passing. I remember her from our Altadore days. She was always smiling, happy and people were attracted to her pleasant manner. May the Holy Spirit bring her family Peace and Comfort. RIP Joni!
Joni was a Master teacher at St. Stephen when I had the privilege of her company! Her passion and patience for teaching Religion and Art inspired me in all my experiences.
We all loved and respected her so much. Dear family, may blessings and many beautiful memories stay with you all.
Joni was a mentor for me when I started teaching in 1988. She was my inspiration for art shows I produced at the schools I taught at over the years. She was always there if I had a question and I will always remember her as a wonderful teacher, friend and colleague.
The soft tone of her smile opening doors — leading way
A heart … danced butterflies to rejoice with her soul
A spirit shared on tender fall — to change leaves of color
To sparkle and touch. When glitters in the night;
The surge, the wave. Tickles tears today
The heavens on painted sky will say,
“Joni come dance in the clouds today” and,
Can you picture me perfect now?
Will you celebrate and pray with me today?
See the magic, feel the power… the Spirit has lifted
We have been gifted, a truly wonderful angel today.
to the lovely family of my dear colleague, mentor and friend,
Joni Winter… she truly made her mark, defined her moments and shared her passions… what a legacy she leaves behind, but also carries forward in “The Joni Winter — Way”… Prayers from afar and with deep regrets to be out of country.

To Sara, Rosie, and all the members of Joni’s family,
I was very saddened to hear of her illness and her passing. She was a drawing and painting student of mine when she returned to the University of Calgary to pursue a Fine Arts degree. She was a truly warm and caring individual with a passionate spirit, a sparkly smile, and a love of beauty. She was committed and hardworking, but came easy to laughter and joy. I still remember her excitement at the opportunity to study in Florence, and the masses and masses of sketches that resulted from her time there. I also recall her strong conviction for fairness and inclusion, which allowed her to speak frankly and foster a large, devoted community of people around her. She brought this same kindness and respect equally to her work as a teacher and as a realtor. Truly, she was a radiant, loving person. I’m fortunate to have known her.

In life there is always that one special person who you always remember. For me, that is Ms. Winter. She was my teacher many years ago. She was a remarkable lady, who was kind, generous and had class. When she was getting married, she welcomed many of the students to attend her reception for the dance. We were all thrilled, attended and had a great time. She always had a smile, welcomed people and was always there for all of us.
Thoughts and prayers to her family at this time ~
Hub, Barb, Bob, Sara & Rosie,
We are so sorry for your loss. Joni was a wonderful person, so loving and kind. We know you will miss her dearly.

I am so greatful that I was able to visit with Joni in the hospital thus I have no regrets although I thought I would have time to see her in the hospice as well. I am so looking forward to seeing you girls Sara and Rosie, at the memorial as it has been such a long time. I hope we can keep in touch. Love and prayers Kerry
Dear Uncle Hubert, Barb, Bob, Sara, Rosie and family,
We are very sorry for the loss of our dear cousin Joni. We know she is one of the newest Angels in heaven. We were happy to have had a good visit in September up in Edmonton with her. We will remember her lovely spirit. We really appreciated all the family get togethers and family reunions she arranged over the years. She will be greatly missed by all.
Love, Julia and Don (Jensen)
Sweet Joni, I’m so sad to hear this news. Thanks to her family for letting me know about her passing. I taught with Joni at St. Stephens, and loved who she was and how she taught. Joni was an inspiration to this beginning teacher! I have a beautiful Fire weed painting of hers in my music room that I treasure. And treasure more now. My sincere condolences to all of Joni’s family.
A beautiful soul has crossed over to her eternal reward. It was a pleasure to have known Joni. My love and prayers to Barb and all of you.
Sara and Rosie and family
It was with great sadness that I learned of your Mothers passing when I came home this afternoon. She will be missed by so many people. I am sorry that we will be unable to attend but perhaps I could speak with you in the coming days.
Joni was kind enough to walk me through a home purchase and she will be fondly remembered for her patience and diligence in this endeavor.
She was a beautiful and kind soul who will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
Sarah,
I only spent a few moments with your mom on a few occasions, but she was just incredibly warm and lovely. Her kindness shines through in you. Paul and I are so glad to have met her and have spent a little time in her sweet house. All our love to you and your family. xo
I am proud to feel part of Joni’s life while she was here with us on earth. It is hard to believe that I first met her as a new teacher at St. Stephen’s. We worked many years together. Although she taught Art and myself PE we became such great friends. I had such respect and aww for her Art and her gift that she would share with students every day. She was loved by her students. Joni’s smile and great hugs will be remembered by me forever, even last week when we said our final good-byes, although I did not know it would be the last time I would see her. So thankful for that visit…. we shared old times, prayed and laughed. I also thanked her for leading me in a closer relationship with our Lord. She was a mentor to me in getting my Graduate Diploma in Religious Studies at St. Mary’s University. Her last words to me were to “just love, that is all Jesus wants us to do”. It was like he was there with her. She was so peaceful and ready to meet God. Joni will be in my heart forever. Love you, Carmel White-Gloria
Hello Joni’s family. I am so sorry for your loss. I got to know your mom well in Tuscany on our painting trip. Joni taught me a lot about lights and darks. We spent a lot of time together. I loved her!
Dear Barb, Rosie, Sara and families… My sincere condolences to you and your beautiful boys! I know you will miss your mom’s sweet spirit and her constant encouragement! I didn’t know her very well, but always enjoyed the few times we did get to chat – she was always so generous and kind! I know you will miss your sister, too Barb but your joy will be in the knowledge that you will see her again some day and the reunion will be sweet! God’s comfort be with you all!
Our sincere condolences to Joni’s family. When we joined CIR Realty, Joni was most friendly and welcoming. She was very kind-hearted. May she rest in peace.
A very talented artist and a kind and warm person. I really enjoyed the visit with her.
My sympathies to the whole family.
I am saddened to hear of the death of a dear friend and colleague. My sincere condolences to all of her family members. My fondest memories of Joni is during the years we spent at UofC in the Phys. Ed. Program. We all fell in love with Joni. How could we not? She had a charismatic personality, a radiant smile, a positive attitude about people, life and beauty of movement. She had such a loving and caring heart and soul. Our graduating class still remembers her choreography of our Tango Dance Group presentation. Some beautiful memories!
Joni, I see you dancing joyfully with the angels in heaven. Please help us to come and join you in the “dance”!
