Obituary of George (Joe) Ronald KOLODY


September 20, 1931 - February 27, 2021

George (Joe) Kolody, beloved husband of Mildred Anna (Millie) (nee Janko) of Calgary, AB, passed away in his sleep on Saturday February 27, 2021 at the age of 89 years.

Joe was born & raised in Lethbridge, AB to parents, Albert and Emeilia Nellie (nee Green). Joe attended Lethbridge Collegiate Institute, Mount Royal College in Calgary, AB, and obtained his Bsc in Geology from Oklahoma University in Norman, OK.

Having his degree in Geology, Joe began his long successful career in the Oil & Gas Industry.  Joe held many positions over the years such as, Geologist with Standard Oil & Gas, Area Geologist with Canadian Industrial Oil & Gas, Division Geologist with Murphy Oil, Exploration Manager of Texas International in Calgary, President of Strata Energy and G. R. Kolody  & Associates Consulting Geologists.

Joe was a member of many Associations and Organizations:  PI Kappa Alpha Fraternity, Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists (CSPG).  Association of Petroleum Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA), American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), Kiwanis Club of Calgary, Associate Member of PPCLI Home Officers Mess, Board Member of Calgary Military Museums Society, Member of Earl Grey Golf.  George was a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.

Joe had many life experiences such as a Vegetable Canning Factory, surveying irrigation ditches, teaching swimming at YMCA, as well as a senior lifeguard in Waterton National Park.

Joe & Millie ventured into several Real Estate holdings such as:  Crawford Bay BC, Brooks, Calgary – Haysboro, Glamorgan, Mount Royal, Springbank's Pinebrook Estates, and Canyon Meadows Estates and also in Montana, Whitefish Lake & gold Course, Flathead Lake and Kalispell.  Joe and his son Jay ventured into an exotic animal ranch, mostly with Llamas.  Golf, of course, was a favourite for Joe, monopolizing most of his free time, but he also had a love for cars, boats & RV's, keeping the family's life interesting.  Being independent and determined his challenges were many, summing up his life of eighty-nine years.  AMEN.

Joe is survived by his Loving wife of sixty-three years, Millie, sons, Wade Alan and Gavin Ronald; granddaughters, Jayleen (Jacob Dickenshied), Justeen (Shaun Hrischuk) & Casandra; and great-grandchildren, Avacyn, Gideon and Breya;  daughter-in-law Tammy.

Joe was predeceased by his parents, Albert & Nellie and his eldest son Jay Albert Ryan.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. There will be a private family service at the McInnis Holloway Funeral Home main Chapel on March 17, 2021 at 1 pm, followed by procession to a Crypt at the Queens Park Cemetary of Calgary.
