Obituary of Leo MICHIELS

September 8, 1953 – Brussels, Belgium
February 28, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Leo Michiels of Calgary, AB passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2021, at the age of 67 years.

Leo was born in Brussels, Belgium to Emiel and Leona (Sprengers) Michiels. He was the sixth born in his family of nine children and the last born in Belgium. Shortly after Leo’s birth, his family relocated to Orillia and then settled in Ayr, ON, where Leo spent his childhood and his early twenties. In his mid-twenties, Leo decided to venture out West, with the final goal of living on the West Coast. He met Sherry, they fell in love and settled in Calgary, AB. Leo and Sherry married on August 14, 1982. They had two daughters, Jennifer Michiels and Alysha Rouillard (Jordan); and two granddaughters, Miya and Evie Drozewski. 

Leo created a loving, safe, warm and welcoming environment for his wife, his children, grandchildren and their many friends. He was the strong silent type on the surface, but a very selfless and compassionate man once you really got to know him beneath his tough exterior. He was a provider, a caregiver, a loving husband and a wonderful father. 

Leo was predeceased by his wife, his parents, two of his brothers, and his in-laws.

Our father, our protector, our warrior, our hero fought until the very end and always put his family first. 

He will be greatly missed and always remembered.
