Obituary of Eleanor Yvonne MURPHY

February 26, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Eleanor Murphy, beloved wife of William Murphy, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, February 26, 2021 at the age of 86 years.

Eleanor was born in Medicine Hat, AB on January 17, 1935. She graduated from the St. Michaels Hospital, School of Nursing in 1957. She worked as a Registered Nurse at the Rockyview General Hospital for twenty-nine years and was a member of the Canadian Association of Registered Nurses. Eleanor loved flowers and gardening, reading a good book, music and spending time with her family. Eleanor will be best known for her twenty-nine years of service at Rockyview General Hospital and her dedication to patient care.

Besides her loving husband William Michael Murphy, Eleanor is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Kevin Christopher Murphy and Shauna Blehm of Calgary, AB; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shannon Marie and Kenneth Harper Gifford of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Kathleen Anne Murphy and David Ross McMillan of North Vancouver, BC; five grandchildren and their spouses,  Heather Anne and Andrew Mirsky of Boca Raton, Florida, Kevin Andrew Gifford of Dallas, Texas, Charles Ross McMillan of North Vancouver, BC, Connor Michael Murphy of Calgary, AB, and Breana Elizabeth Blehm Murphy of Calgary, AB; and two great-grandchildren, Sarah Corrine Mirsky and Ethan James Mirsky. 

She was predeceased by her son Patrick William Murphy, parents, Marguerite Rose Shannon and Robert Shannon; grandparents, Bartolomeo Antonio Burla and Louisa Borgnis; brothers, Patrick Joseph Shannon, Robert Henry Shannon, and Arthur Leroy Shannon; and her sister Lillian Crosson.
