Cassidy Barry Saddleback (Duck Chief), (Piita-Eagle), passed away suddenly on Monday, March 1, 2021 in Calgary, AB, at the age of 36 years old.

Cassidy was passionate about sports. He played hockey, baseball, golf, and any sport he could try. He excelled at hockey; playing with Siksika Minor Hockey, Strathmore Bantam Wheatland AA , Cypress Timberwolves Bantam AAA, Breakaway Midget AAA Northstars, Wayway Seecappo Wolverines Jr.A, Three Hills Jr. B Thrashers, Siksika Ice Jr.B, Split Lake Jr.B, and Ranchland Sr Mens Hockey League with the Siksika Buffaloes, And Siksika Minors. Cassidy was an athlete and loved mentoring those around him. He coached Siksika Pre-Novice and Novice hockey teams. He was an assistant coach for the 2020-2021 U18 Siksika Midget hockey team. His love for sports shined through everyone around him. He loved watching his children, nieces, and nephews play sports. He took them to skate, practices, and made the trips to support them all.

Cassidy went to Crowfoot elementary school, Siksika Nation high school, Gleichen Sequoia Outreach and Graduated with his high school diploma in 2006. He excelled in Math and Sciences. He then went on to Old’s College and completed his certification as a Grader Operator. Cassidy completed many tickets and certifications throughout his career.

Cassidy was with his love, Jacey for nineteen years. He was a family man and loved his two sons and was always very protective of his family. Cassidy loved his nieces and nephews and shared his love of sports and encouraged them to be respectful and positive. Cassidy was adventurous and loved the Calgary Stampede, powwows, and the Calgary Flames. He was a family man at heart and loved family gatherings, BBQ’s, and just being with family and friends. Cassidy completed his Cursillo in 2009, his family was St. Anthony and his theme song was “One Day at a time”.

Although Cassidy experienced loss, he always persevered and never let anyone feel alone. He was loved by many and had a good sense of humor. He loved to dance and lived life to the fullest. He also loved being Uber Eats for his in-laws.

He leaves behind the loves of his life, Jacey Chanelle Rose of nineteen years, his precious sons, Casdin and Paiden and his niece Jayvel Duck Chief. He also leave behind his father Barry (Florine),  and mother Donna, his grandmother June Francis (Duck Chief), and grandfather Donald Anderson; his adopted parents, Herman and Ida Duck Chief, adopted siblings, Armond, Amanda, Janine MG, Emily, Joni, Chanel, Samantha, Billie (Kolby), Gracie, Janine OC, Christie OC and Danielle OC; his uncles and aunties, Veronica Smith, Fonda Duck Chief, Verena (Shawn), Craig (Lynn), Barbara (Carl), Audrey (Tony), Elaine, Eleanor, Carol, Blair, Dino, George, Lawrence, Randy and Clay;  his great-aunt Roberta and  in-laws, Leroy (Marsha), Brett (Joenie), Leslie, Clement (Pauline), Mitchell (Vanessa), Almena (Louann), and Jr (Satira).

He will be missed by his many nieces and nephews who adored and cherished him. He leaves his many friends whose stories can tell you their journey and adventures. Cassidy leaves behind the following extended families: Duck Chiefs, Sitting Eagles, Andersons, Saddle Backs, Smiths, McMasters, Running Rabbits, and Doores.

Cassidy was predeceased by his siblings, Jason and Dale; his grandfather Hughie Francis; grandparents, Simon and Josephine Sitting Eagle, his auntie Penny Saddleback, and cousins, Brandie, Darian and Teranda Saddleback.

Wake Services will be held at the Residence of Janine Many Guns, Siksika Nation on Monday, March 8th, 2021 at 6:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held at Gordan Yellow fly Memorial Arbor at 1:00 PM. Graveside Services to follow at Little Washington Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations can be made to the Jacey and Sons.

The family would like to thank all the people who offered words of encouragement, support and prayers; a special thank you to the Strathmore EMS, Strathmore RCMP, STARS, and Foothills Hospital staff and especially to Jennifer (Social Worker) for all your support.
