Delmer HUTCHINSON

Obituary of Delmer HUTCHINSON

June 6, 1933 -    Prince Albert, Saskatchewan

March 2, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Delmer Hutchinson, beloved husband of the late Lorraine Ivy Hutchinson, passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at the age of 87 years.

Delmer Hutchinson was born June 6, 1933, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan to mother Evelyn and father George. Delmer had one older sibling, Leonard. The family would eventually move from Saskatchewan to Drumheller, Alberta, then permanently to Calgary.

At an early age, Delmer loved to work on vehicles, which led him to lease and manage a Texaco station for a number of years in the early 1960’s. Delmer’s next work adventure was in the residential construction industry as a cribber/framer for new homes. Construction would be Delmer’s career for the majority of his life. Unfortunately, the constant strain of hammering took a toll on Delmer’s hands and he retired from the industry.

Delmer worked for a short time at 7-11 and for a number of years after that, as a maintenance technician for McDonald’s at Crowfoot in N.W. Calgary. In 1975, Delmer built his first home where he, along with his wife Lorraine, resided for over forty years.

Delmer was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for decades and an avid member of their shuffleboard league, which he won many trophies and awards over the years. Delmer’s other passions included playing guitar, singing, listening to Country Music, and everything hockey, especially his beloved Calgary Flames.

On March 2, 2021, Delmer succumbed to the terrible disease Dementia, as it caused ongoing Aspiration Pneumonia.

Delmer was a great man, never wavering from being kind, and non-judgmental, and these were just a couple of his many outstanding characteristics of his life.

Delmer, Dad, Grampa, Great-Grampa, Great-Great-Grampa, and Friend…you will be so greatly missed…

Delmer and Lorraine had four children, Wendy Yvonne, Darcy Delmer, Penny Candace, and Judy Lorraine. They also had nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Delmer was predeceased by his oldest daughter Wendy in 2006, his wife Lorraine in 2010, and his only son Darcy in 2017.
