Obituary of Robel Zekarias PETROS

February 15, 1987 – Dekseb, Serejeka, Eritrea
March 8, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Robel Zekarias Petros in Calgary, Alberta, on Monday March 8, 2021 at the age of 34. 

Robel Petros was born on February 15, 1987 in Dekseb, Eritrea, to father, Zekarias Beraki, and mother, Shewhat Setarge. Robel was raised in Asmara, Eritrea, along with his eight siblings. In 2011, Robel later came to Calgary, Alberta, where he began his academic career by attending Southern Alberta Institute of Technology where he studied Instrumentation Engineering. In 2019, Robel was diagnosed with brain cancer and began radiation/chemotherapy treatment. Robel remained dedicated and devotional to fight his illness and stayed strong and extremely positive to his faith of tenacity of hope even throughout his final months. 

Everyone who knew Robel knows that his smile could light up a room. Robel enjoyed life, had a great sense of humour, loved going on adventures, trying new things, and making indelible memories.

Robel is survived by his parents, Zekarias Beraki and Shewhat Setarge; his eight siblings, Asmerom, Kidan, Saba, Samuel, Awet, Yohanes, Meron, and Faben; and his partner Julia W-Giorgis. 

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, March 18, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

A Private Funeral Service will be held at St. Michael’s Eritrean Orthodox Church on Friday, March 19, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, family and friends are invited to join Mr. Petros’ service streamed live via Zoom.

ሮቤል ዘካርያስ ጴጥሮስ ብ ሰኑይ 08 መጋቢት 2021 ኣብ 34 ዕድሚኡ ኣብ ካልጋሪ ኣልበርታ፣ ካናዳ ብሞት ካባና ብምፍላዩ ከቢድ ሓዘን ይስመዓና።

ሮቤል ዘካርያስ ብ የካቲት 15 ፡1987 ኣብ ደቕሰብ፡ ኤርትራ ካብ ኣቡኡ ዘካርያስ ጴጥሮስ በራኺን  ካብ ኣዲኡ ሸውሃት ኢማን ሰጥአርገን ተወሊዱ። ሮቤል ምስ 8 የሕዋቱ ኣብ ኣስመራ ዓብዩ። ብ 2011 ናብ ካልጋሪ ፡ ኣልበርታ (ካናዳ) መጸ። ኣብኡ ድማ ኣብ ደቡብ ኣልበርታ ማእከል ቴክኖሎጂ (SAIT) ብምህንድስና መሳርሒ (Instrumental Engineering) ትምህርቱ ወድአ ።

ኣብ 2019 ሮቤል ናይ ሓንጎል መንሽሮ (Brain Cancer) ከምዘለዎ ምስተፈልጠ፣ ብኡብኡ ብጨረርን ኬሞቴራፒን ዝግበር ሕክምና ጀመረ።  ሮቤል ኣብተን ናይ መወዳአታ ብሂወት ዝነበረለን ኣዋርሕ እውን ከይተረፈ ብቆራጽነት ምስ ሕማሙ ብሓቦ ብምቅላስ ፡ ኣዝዩ ኣወንታውን ጽኑዕ ተስፋን ሒዙ ቀጸለ ።

ኩሎም ንሮቤል ዝፈልጥዎ ፍሽኽትኡ ብርሃን ገዛ ምዃኑ ይምስክርሉ እዮም። ሮቤል ብሂወት ዝተሓጎሰን ፡ ኣዝዩ ተዋዛያይ/ተጫራቂን ፡ ሓድሽ ነገር ምፍታን፣ ምጉዓዝን ቦታታት ምዕዛብን፣ ዘይርሳዕ ተዘክሮታት ምግባርን ዝፈቱ እዩ ኔሩ።

ሮቤል በቶም ብሂወት ዘለዉ ስድራቤቱ ፥ ኣቡኡ ዘካርያስ ጴጥሮስ በራኺ ፡ ኣዲኡ ሸውሃት ኢማን ሰጥኣርገ ፡ የሕዋቱ ኣስመሮም፥ ኪዳን፡ ሳባ፡ ሳሙኤል፡ ዓወት፡ ዮውሃንስ፡ ሜሮን፡ ፌቨን ከምኡውን ብጸይቱ ጁሊያ ወ.ጊዮርጊስ ዝተፈትወን ዝማእከለን እዩ ኔሩ።

ናይ ሮቤል ስነ-ስርዓት ቀብሪ ኣብ ናይ ኤርትራ ኦርቶዶክሳዊት ቤተ-ክርስቲያን ቅዱስ ሚኪኤል ክካየድ እዩ ። እንተኾነ ግን ብምክንያት ናይ ኣልበርታ ኮቪድ ቀይድታት ኩሉ ሰብ ንክሳተፍ ክጥዕም እቲ ስነ-ስርዓት ብzoom ክፍነው እዩ።
