Obituary of Marion Alice THOMPSON

August 1, 1929 – Lloydminster, Saskatchewan
March 10, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Marion Alice Thompson, cherished, twin sister of Kathleen, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at the age of 91 years.

Marion was born August 1, 1929 in Lloydminster, SK. Marion and her twin sister Kathleen lived on a farm four miles west of town in Alberta. They attended to the eighth grade at Westminster Park country school, sometimes on horseback and in winter on skis. Marion later finished high school at Prairie Bible Institute, now Prairie College, where she took piano lessons and secretarial courses, including typing and Gregg shorthand. Computers were not in vogue at that time. For several years she was secretary at Alliance District Office here in Calgary but her greatest interest and challenge was legal work. She learned on the job at two offices, one in Salmon Arm and another in Vernon, BC, but the majority of her experience was twenty years in Calgary with the law firm of Petrie, Tomblen, and Wright. As secretary to the senior solicitor, Mr. J.K. Petrie she gained valuable experience in handling transfers, mortgages, wills, litigation, and many other legal transactions. The senior solicitor was also president of two active junior oil and gas companies and Marion was appointed company secretary of Vanguard Petroleum Ltd.

Marion is survived by her twin sister and best friend, Kathleen (Kay) Thompson and cousins, Bill and Joyce Brotzell of Medicine Hat, AB.  She is also survived by many relative in the United Kingdom and South Africa and many dear friends in Calgary.

A Private Graveside Service will be held at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens. A Private Funeral Service will be held on, Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. For those who are unable to attend, a recording of the service will be posted.
