Obituary of Karl BONK

May 7, 1933 - March 11, 2021

On the morning of Thursday, March 11th, 2021, Karl Bonk peacefully passed from this life to his heavenly home at the age of 87 years.

He will be dearly missed. Left to celebrate Karl’s life – Karen (Rick) and Donna (Frank) along with five grandchildren – Christopher (Stephanie), Tiffany (Jason), Jonathan, Sophia, and Marcus and three great-grandchildren – Eva & Verina, Ailee along with numerous nieces and nephews and his youngest sister Helga. Karl was born on May 7, 1933, to Karl and Elsie Bonk in Germany. He sailed to Canada, landing in Quebec City in July 1953. He spent his first year on a farm in Nova Scotia where he learned English. Traveling across Canada with his buddy Paul he finally settled in Calgary. Here he met his wife Elsie and for 58 years danced through life’s good times and bad times until her passing in July 2015. Starting as a laborer, he retired in June 1988 as a Supervisor from the City of Calgary Electric System. When asked what his greatest accomplishment was in life, he smiled and said his three daughters who he affectionally referred to as “Charlie’s Angels.” Dad was never one to sit still. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, camping, walking, dancing, swimming, playing cards, shooting pool, darts, and the Horse Races. He loved puzzling! Creating memories with his family – whether barbequing, attending a school event, or vacationing here or abroad brought him the greatest joy in life. Welcoming Karl with open arms is his beloved wife Elsie, his precious daughter Shirley, his parents Karl and Elsie, and his sisters and brothers – Lizel, Wanda, Willi, Gerhard, and Kurt.
