Obituary of Charles Douglas (Doug) GILBERT

Charles Douglas (Doug) Gilbert, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Monday, March, 15, 2021 at the age of 94 years.

He was born on January 4, 1927 and educated in Peterborough, England. After service with the Irish Guards near the end of WWII he came to Alberta in 1957, where except for two short work assignments in California and Ottawa he remained until his death. 

He was intrigued by the beauty and variety of the province and never wished to live elsewhere. Gardening, fishing and hunting were his favourite past times. 

Prior to his retirement in 1987 Doug held several senior HR positions with the City of Red Deer, the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs, the Northern Pipeline Agency, and Parks Canada. 

Besides his loving wife Judith, Doug  is survived by his daughter Christine (Robert),  grandchildren, Kathleen (Greg), Ann (Mark), William, Jack (Kyla), Michael, Charlotte, and Cameron; his step-daughter Kate (Greg), and step-son Philip (Christine), and great-grandchildren, Stella, Astrid, and Persephone. Doug was predeceased by his first wife Jean in 1991, his son Stephen in 1999, and daughter Dorothy in 2009.
