Obituary of Ricky Derek RAMDHANEY

May 23, 1978 - March 18, 2021

Ricky Ramdhaney of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at the age of 42 years.

Ricky was born in Trinidad, where he spent his childhood and adolescence. He moved to Canada in 1995 to pursue tertiary education at McGill University and eventually settled in Calgary, Alberta, where he was Manager of International Student Services at the University of Calgary since 2009. After completing his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with distinction at McGill University in 2000, he went on to pursue his Master’s in International Education at New York University. He was supervisor, trainer, advisor and counselor in both his professional and personal life. For this purpose, which he loyally fulfilled in the lives of so many friends, family members, colleagues, and students, Ricky was exquisitely loved, respected and adored. His passion was service, and his life was devoted to this passion. This was evident by his selfless volunteering roles in crisis lines, soup kitchens and homeless shelters. Ricky enjoyed music especially that from his home country: calypso, reggae, Indian music and music from steelpan. He also loved travelling and learning about people’s cultures and traditions.

His absence is deeply felt, and his death will be mourned forever.

He is survived by his parents, Kenneth and Shanti of Trinidad; his sister Susan, niece Liana and nephew Jaden and brother-in-law Gary of New York.
