Obituary of Colton Robert James HAMMONDS

September 20, 1998 – Edmonton, Alberta
March 14, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Colton Hammonds of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, March 14, 2021 at the age of 22 years.

He was born in Edmonton, AB on September 20, 1998 before moving to Calgary in 2007. Colton graduated from Crescent Heights High School in 2016.

Colton had a great interest in computers, and the gaming industry. He would spend hours at his computer, playing, and also had learned to write his own programs. He was enrolled at SAIT for a 2 year program, to help further his knowledge, at the time of his demise. Colton also loved to go hiking out by the Bragg Creek area, with his Big Brother who became one of his closest friends. They spent many enjoyable hours together, out there and had started to explore other areas and trails. Colton had an interest in Norse mythology, and the weapons associated with the Vikings. He had started to collect various weapons, and at one time had wanted to become a blacksmith. To support him in that goal, he was able to attend a blacksmithing workshop for beginners when he was 15. He was quite proud of the items he had crafted that weekend. When he was much younger, he was determined that he was going to be a soldier, and became a cadet with the Canadian Air Cadets when he was 13. He was a member of his squadron for 2 years and achieved the rank of Corporal, before deciding to focus more on school.

In the last 2 years, Colton had designed and built his own computer, which he was so proud of. He was also extremely proud of graduating High School, as school was a challenge for him at times.

Colton spent numerous summers out in Saskatchewan, with the family, at his maternal cousins’ cabin in Cochin. His favorite vacation/trip though, was a trip he made to California with three friends in the summer of 2018. It was his first vacation on his own, and his first out of Canada.

Colton is survived by his parents, Mike and Deidre Berry (Hartman); brother Shawn Berry, all of Calgary; sisters, Jessica (Jeff) Dutton of Parksville, BC, Alanna Berry of Didsbury, AB, Madison (Dawson) Berry of Calgary; grandparents, Randy J. Hartman of Calgary, Paige (Kuehn) Hartman of Lethbridge, AB, and Barb Berry of Calgary; and numerous extended family.

Colton was predeceased by his father Robert (Bob) Hammonds of Edmonton, AB; grandparents, Gordon and Joy Hammonds of Rocky Mountain House, AB and Robert Berry of Calgary.
