Obituary of Richard Vernon HOOK

October 26, 1953 – Edmonton, Alberta

March 24, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Rick Hook passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at the age of 67 years.

The Hook family lived in New Orleans, Louisiana; and Tulsa, Oklahoma, before moving back to Calgary in 1962. Rick attended Earl Grey School, Mt. Royal J.H., and graduated from Western Canada H.S. Rick obtained a BS in Psychology from Washington State University in 1978.

Rick was predeceased by both sets of grandparents, Vern (Olga) Hook, Henry C. (Emma) Romine; parents, James Richard Hook and Leatrice Joy Hook; little brother Randy Hook and first wife Jana Hair.

He met Jana Hair at Washington State University and they married September 1979. They raised two sons, Gavin James (born 1983) in Denver, and Randall Steven (born 1986) in Calgary. The boys were their absolute pride and joy. He was the best brother to Latrice Lehman (Keith), nephews Jeff (Lorin), Cameron, and many cousins in Michigan, Kentucky, and Ohio. He is survived by brother-in-law Randy Hair (Margaret).

Rick’s work career started with Chaparral Oilfield Services working with his father. He and good friend Trevor Conduit started Richmond Springs Bottled Water and later sold the company to Culligan. He pursued various business ventures in his career. For the past eleven years Rick worked at his dream job in technical sales and service, with longtime friend Tom Charlton at Environmental Air Cleaning Ltd.

Rick and Janice’s seventeen year relationship brought together four wonderful children. Rick’s sons, Gavin (Allison), Randy (Amber), grandson Raiden, Janice’s children Willy (Jenelle), Sonja (Braden), and grandchildren. He was also remembered by the entire Wilson family and the Castlegar family.

To all of Rick’s dear friends, you have been by his side over the years with your friendship, kindness and been there in the most difficult times. Janice and the rest of the family are overwhelmed with gratitude to each and every one of you.
