Obituary of Bruce CRONEY

July 16, 1948 – Toronto, Ontario
March 24, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Bruce Croney, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at the age of 72 years.

Bruce was born in Toronto, ON, on July 16, 1948. He moved to Santa Monica, California, USA on Sept 1956, and moved back to North Bay, ON, in 1965. He graduated from the Chippewa high school in North Bay, ON. Bruce met his future wife Marilyn Nicholls at seventeen and married at twenty-three. He had three children, Bradley Bruce in 1973, Cheryl Leigh in 1975 and Kimberley Anne in 1978.

Bruce accomplished much through his life and was particularly proud of his children. He owned Bruce Croney Agencies, where he sold high end furniture. He was still involved in the furniture business until retirement. Bruce had a passion for fishing, golfing, and times spent with friends and family. Growing up he played baseball, football, as well as boxing and surfing.

Bruce loved music, some of his children’s best memories of him growing up was listening and dancing to the Beatles, singing in the car, where they would change the lyrics, just to see if they could make him laugh. All they could see from the back seat was the wrinkle by his eye as he laughed along with them. They would sit on the arm of his chair for many hours at night listening to records, and he would tell the story of the song. The children’s love of music today is largely because of his love for music.

As many of his friends know, Bruce’s sense of humor and ability to tell great stories of growing up in California and just life in general. People often told his children about the amazing person Bruce was. Bruce was always there to lend an ear, he was quiet and unassuming, but deeply loving with the biggest heart. He hated to see the people he cared about in pain. His children will miss all the conversations, and laughs they had. Bruce was a good man, he wasn’t perfect, as most of us aren’t, but his heart was always in the right place.

The most important things to Bruce in life were his children, his family, and his many life long friends. He will be dearly missed by those best friends, Bobby Edgar of AZ, John Barber of ON, and Paul and Brenda Stout of Calgary, along with many more here in Calgary.

Bruce is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Leigh Croney and Kim and Steve Manzies, all of Calgary, AB; son Brad Croney of BC and granddaughters, Sofia Elizabeth and Claire Anne of Calgary, AB. Bruce is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Hal and Trudie Croney, of Upland, California; as well as nephew Steven Croney of Philadelphia and niece Kristen Croney of Brea, California.

Bruce was predeceased by his sister Arlene Rutherford of California, and parents, Florence and Harold Croney of Callander, ON.

A Private Family Service will be held at a later date. Bruce will be cremated. As per his wishes, his ashes will be combined with his mother’s and scattered back home in North Bay. His last days in the hospital were spent with his children by his side. He said many times that it was going to be a wonderful day and he would see us all again. Rest Peacefully Daddy. Until we meet again. We know you will always be with us. We love you.

In living memory of Bruce Croney, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.
