Obituary of Jerome (Jerry) Herbert RAMSAY

September 18, 1937 – Stettler, Alberta
March 26, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Jerome (Jerry) Herbert Ramsay, beloved husband of Elli Kinnon-Ramsay, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, March 26, 2021 at the age of 83 years.

Jerry “the Rammer” Ramsay was born in 1937 in Stettler, the youngest of six children of Evelyn and George “Geordie” Ramsay.  Jerry was predeceased by siblings, Jim, Jack, June, and Joyce.  His brother, Joe lives in Qualicum, BC.  Jerry was immensely proud of his Ramsay and Scottish heritage.  He loved to drink Scotch, quote Bobby Burns, tell jokes in a Scottish accent, and made sure he had all of the proper Ramsay Clan tartans, kilts, and other paraphernalia. Jerry loved being a Ramsay. He talked often about the successes of brothers and sisters and was a proud uncle to his nieces and nephews, including a special bond with his nephew Little Joe who predeceased Jerry by many years and whom Jerry would reminisce about often.

The love of Jerry’s life was Elli.  Jerry and Elli were married in 1980 and they have been inseparable ever since.  Jerry was always there for her and was her soulmate.  He indulged Elli’s passions, especially when it came to her frequent antique hunting.  He would, (almost always), remain patient and made sure to let her know he loved what she had bought.  Jerry joined the Kinnon family when he met Elli and became a father to Rob (Debbie), Tony (Sandra), and Jennifer.  Jerry was an enthusiastic cheerleader for all his grandkids endeavors. He was loved and will be very much missed by all of them: Jessica (Rob and baby Izzy), Jordan (Teagan and baby Dax), Tyler, Sean, Scott, and Amy.  Jerry gave all of us his time and love as often as possible and we will cherish this in him.

Outside of his immediate family Jerry will be missed by extended family and friends.  Jerry loved to laugh, crack jokes, drink, party, and misbehave.  If there was a family function or a party Jerry was there and was the instigator of fun, and he made sure to drag others of any age group into his circle. These are the things for which he was famous, loved, and for which he will be missed the most.

In his youth Jerry was a great athlete.  A semi-pro hockey player, an Olympic ranked sprinter, as well as being gifted at many other sports.   In his later years he was an avid fan of pro sports but also loved to watch his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Jerry was an oilman, an Albertan, and a proud redneck.  He started working on the rigs when he was 16.  He stayed in the oil industry the rest of his life as a self-made entrepreneur and representative, in multiple capacities, of the oil and gas service sector.  Jerry brought his love of life and love of people to his career in the same way he brought it to every aspect of his life and we know there will be many who miss him from his business world as well.

Most of all Jerry lived in the moment and wherever he went he would say:

“Is there any better place to be then this?”

“It’s Triple Magic here”.

We love you and will miss you Jerry, Pops, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle, and, (maybe most importantly to Jerry), Friend.  We were all lucky to be his friend.

A Private Family Service will be held at a later date. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Jerome’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
