Obituary of Sylvia Marie BOYER

March 23, 1934 - North Battleford, Saskatchewan
April 1, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Sylvia Boyer (Bailey) of Calgary, AB, Passed away on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at the age of 87 years, after a lengthy battle with COPD and congestive heart failure.

Sylvia made many friends over the years working in North Battleford, Grand Prairie and Calgary, and always loved to go back home to Cochin, SK. She loved going to garage sales and flea markets and her and Al would often come to Cochin with their station wagon full of surprises for everyone. When company came to Calgary to visit she always had Calgary dinner on the stove and usually bannock came with it.  If something crazy was going to happen, it seemed to happen to her, like the time her and Al were driving back to Calgary from Regina and Al left her at a gas station not realizing she had gotten out to use the bathroom. Al had the football game on (Calgary and Saskatchewan playing); Sylvia had been laying in the back of the wagon reading her paper. A young couple offered to drive her to catch up to Al. So there they are on the no. 1 Hwy, this crazy woman hanging out the window waving at her hubby while he’s driving along listening to the game. Poor Al never heard the end of it and neither did Sylvia as we all loved to tease her.

Sylvia enjoyed playing bingo and having coffee and talking politics with her casino buddies. She will be especially missed by Terry (Gladys) and Linda (Carlo) Guenther

She leaves to mourn her sisters, Rita Boast, Verna Boyer (Cadrin); her brothers, Maurice (Shirley) Boyer, and Tony (Julie) Boyer; sisters-in-law, Liz Bendall, Alma Boyer and Betty Hollingshead. Sylvia had four children but due to circumstances beyond her control they were given up for adoption. They are: Gerry (Maurice) Postnikoff of Saskatoon, Susan Antonishyn of Ituna, SK, Michael Bottoms of Toronto, and Patricia Bottoms of Edmonton. Also left behind are three stepsons, Ray (Roni) Bailey of Lloydminster, Doug Bailey of High River and Ted (Colleen) Bailey of Calgary. She is also survived by her thirty-eight nieces and nephews who were extremely special to Sylvia. Many of whom she was like a second mother to. So she will be missed by many.Special mention goes to Janelle Laing as she was like a granddaughter to Sylvia; spending many of her early years with Sylvia and Papa Al, while her mom, Nancy Laing was working.

We will miss you Sylvia and thanks for the great memories
