Obituary of Donna Gail FELDBERG (nee Richards)

October 24, 1928 – Edmonton Alberta
April 10, 2021 – Calgary Alberta

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Donna Gail Feldberg on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at the age of 92 years.

Donna Gail was raised in Edmonton during the depression, which left a lasting impression on her throughout her life. As a young girl, she excelled in figure skating, but it was her soprano voice that made her exceptional. As a frequent performer in the Edmonton area, as well as a participant in several national competitions, she received numerous awards, scholarships, and accolades. She then moved from Edmonton to Toronto to continue her studies at the University of Toronto and the Royal Conservatory of Music. It was there that she met her future husband, Heinz Feldberg, whom she married on August 14, 1954. They would remain together for almost sixty-five years.

After living in Ontario for a few years, Heinz and Donna Gail moved to Edmonton, where they raised their three children. During that time, Donna Gail continued to perform as a classical singer with many groups in the Edmonton area. Once her children were old enough to fend for themselves, she returned to University to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Alberta.

Donna Gail and Heinz travelled extensively, enjoying extended trips to distant regions of the earth as well as hiking in the nearby mountains. A lifelong lover of animals, she found a lot of pleasure in the exploits of various family pets. She was also a voracious reader and a history enthusiast.

Donna Gail is survived by her eldest child Kirsten (Rene Marion); her sons, Peter (Line Lacasse) and John (Barbara). She is also survived by her nephew Michael Richards (Lolyta); her grandchildren Sean (Anastasia), Maxime (Jason), Stephanie, Sarah, and Emilie; and three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Harper, and Ciaran.

She was predeceased by her parents, William Clarence Richards and Margarita Richards, her brothers, Michael and Robin, and her husband Heinz.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Manor Village, Signature Park, for taking such good care of her these past few years. Given the times, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations in her memory can be made to the Alberta Ballet Company, an organization that was very important to both Donna Gail and Heinz (https://support.albertaballet.com/donate).

Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Donna’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

In living memory of Donna Gail Feldberg, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area.
