Marlene BUGRY

Obituary of Marlene Edith BUGRY

July 3, 1932 – Stratford, Ontario
April 14, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Marlene Bugry on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at the age of 88.  Marlene was a caring and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Marlene was born and raised in Stratford, Ontario. Prior to having a family, she attended Teachers’ College and taught elementary school in the London, Ontario area.  Later in her career, she helped young students overcome speech problems.  Marlene met her husband Ray while he was studying at University in London. They were married in 1961 and moved to Calgary in 1964, to further Ray’s career as a geologist.  Upon moving to Calgary, Marlene stopped teaching and devoted herself to her new home and young family.

Marlene loved to chat, brush the cat, read, watch movies, and go to the theatre or a concert.  She instilled in her daughters and granddaughter a life-long love of literature.  She was quite creative – always cooking, painting, sewing, knitting, or decorating. Marlene thrived being outside gardening.  Her home and yard were filled with beautiful flowers and plants.

Both Marlene and Ray belonged to Silver Springs Golf and Country Club for close to 40 years.  Most of her friends and neighbours also belonged to the Club.  She enjoyed all the friendships that she made, and the many different bridge groups that she belonged to, at the Club.

She will be deeply missed by her husband Raymond, daughters Lisa and Michelle (Marc) Roy, and her granddaughter Kaitlyn.  She will also be missed by her brother Gerald (Blanche) Weber of London, Ontario, and her sister Heidi (Peter) Pass of Barrie, Ontario.  Her sister Carmen Weber, of Stratford, Ontario, passed away in 2007.

Marlene’s family will be abiding by her request that there be no formal memorial service.  Marlene’s favorite childhood memory was of her father taking Marlene and her siblings into the country on Mothers’ Day to pick wildflowers for their mother.  Accordingly, in Marlene’s memory, her daughters and granddaughter will be planting wildflowers in their gardens to remember her by.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Marlene’s name may be made directly to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Southern Alberta, 6007 – 1A Street S.W., Calgary, AB T2H 0G5 Telephone: (403) 255-6108, www.kidney.ca, or to the Glaucoma Research Society of Canada, 1929 Bayview Avenue, Suite 215E, Toronto, Ontario, M4G 3E8, https://www.glaucomaresearch.ca/donate/. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed on Marlene’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Andrew Crichton, Dr. Sophia Ahmed, the nurses, doctors and staff at the Northwest Calgary Dialysis Centre, and the doctors, nurses, and staff at Chartwell Colonel Belcher Retirement Residence, for their kindness, friendship, and exceptional care of Marlene throughout her life. The family also wishes to thank the Pharmacists at Market Mall Pharmacy and Compounding for their helpfulness over the last 50 years.

We hold you close within our hearts and there you will remain - to walk with us throughout our lives until we meet again.  May you journey safely to the other side and rest in peace.
