Obituary of Jeannine Shirley MAXWELL

Jeannine Shirley Maxwell (nee Gaskarth) passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at the age of 87 years old with her daughter Janet at her side. She was predeceased by her loving husband Gordon Maxwell in 2019

Jeannine was born in Calgary in 1933 to her parents Bill and Lillian Gaskarth. Her siblings, Barbara and David later followed. She completed High School at Crescent Heights and then went onto become a nurse at Calgary General Hospital School of Nursing as part of the class of 1955. She married Gordon in 1955, with children Janet and Gord to follow. As was common at the time Jeannine retired from her nursing career following the birth of her children to focus on being a mother and homemaker. Over the child rearing years she was an active volunteer as baseball coach, South YMCA volunteer, member of the RockyView Hospital Women’s Auxiliary as well as chief driver to children’s activities. She maintained a large group of very close friends from her days in High School, Nursing school and friends from the neighborhood of Chinook Park in Calgary where Jeannine and Gordon lived for almost fifty years. During Gordon’s working years, Jeannine loved their annual vacations to the cabins at Crimson Lake and Wasa Lake. They later built a cottage of their own at Wasa. The cabin became the gathering place of extended family and friends in their retirement, where much love and laughter was shared.

She is lovingly remembered by her sister Barbara Dunsmore, brother David Gaskarth, and children, Gord (Elaine) and Janet; and grandchildren, Kelly (Ryan), Stephanie, David (Cayleigh), Ben and Paige as well as her many friends and extended family.

A service will take place following the current emergency. Thank you to the staff at Chinook Care Nursing home for her excellent care over the last few years and especially during the Covid crisis.
