Obituary of Jacquelyn LUCAS (nee Richardson)

August 21, 1932 – Calgary, Alberta
April 24, 2021 – Okotoks, Alberta

With family by her side Jacquelyn Grace Lucas (nee Richardson) passed away peacefully on April 24, 2021 at Tudor Manor in Okotoks at 88 years of age. 

Jacquie was born in Calgary August 21, 1932 and spent the younger years of her life living with her maternal grandparents (Mom and Dad Crick) on a family farm near Vulcan. She attended school in Vulcan and there in Grade 11 she met the love of her life Lionel Lucas. After high school Lionel and Jacquie got married and she became part of the Lucas family as well. They lived on Lionel’s family farm near Vulcan and had three beautiful children. In 1963 Lionel died tragically in a plane crash leaving Jacquie a 31 year old widow with three small children. With the help and blessing of her family Jacquie (and Val) went to Calgary for several months so she could attend secretarial school. When they returned to Vulcan Jacquie worked at the Vulcan Medical Clinic for several years and belonged to many service clubs including the Flying Farmers, Kinettes and Royal Purple. In 1975 Jacquie and her children moved to Calgary where she worked at the Treasury Branch, the Rockyview Hospital and the Calgary Catholic School Board where she retired in 1993. Jacquie was a classy lady and never left home without her lipstick and purse.

Jacquie was a warm, cheerful, fun loving and optimistic person. She was well known for her unconditional love, support and kindness. Family and friends speak fondly of the good times they spent with Jacquie over the years. She had a special relationship with each of her four grandchildren and was up for any adventures or fun activities they suggested. Jacquie shared that her greatest accomplishment in life was her family. She enjoyed celebrating all of her family’s accomplishments alongside them and was immensely proud of each and every one of them. Jacquie lived a life of selfless, unconditional love and passed that legacy onto her entire family.

Jacquie will be dearly missed by surviving family including her three children Vicki Lucas of High River, Vance (Kim) Lucas of Turner Valley and Valorie (Justin) Habetler of Calgary, four grandchildren Christine (Jeff) Bates, Beth (Patrick) Putnam, Ashley (Trevor) Bourassa and Austin (Meagan) Habetler and six great-grandchildren Bridget & Sydney Bates, Ryker, Harlan & Berkley Bourassa and Brooklyn Putnam. Siblings Butch (Linda) Howard of Bentley, Dawn (Mike) Quinn of Prince George and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends too. She was predeceased by her husband Lionel, sister Kelly, parents and grandparents.

A private memorial service will be held for immediate family at the Vulcan Cemetery and a larger Celebration of Life will be held at a later date when restrictions allow. Jacquie’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Steed and all the staff at Tudor Manor where Jacquie resided for the past three years. They treated her like family and always told us how much they loved her.
