Obituary of David Laurence STONE

June 28, 1929 – Mudis, Anamalis, India
April 26, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

David, predeceased in 2016 by Jean, his beloved wife of 65 years, passed away on Monday, April 26, 2021, at the age of 91.

David Laurence Stone was born in Mudis, India, on June 28, 1929. He was one of three sons born to his parents, Kathleen Dorothia (Casper) and Ernest Albert Stone. David and his younger brother, John, initially grew up on the Anaimudi Estate, then attended elementary boarding school in England, and later reunited with their mother and younger brother, Roger, in Victoria, BC.

David attended Brentwood College near Victoria, where he excelled in tennis, rugby, and rowing. He met Jean in Saskatchewan, where he graduated from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. They married on February 21, 1951, and then embarked on a 25-year career in the Canadian Armed Forces Provost Corps, with postings in Shiloh, Winnipeg, Germany, Calgary, Cyprus, Ottawa, Victoria, and Halifax. After retiring as a Major in 1996, they lived happily in their self-built home on Saltspring Island, BC, with their well-loved Labradors - gardening, walking and sailing contentedly for many years. Declining health in 2014 led them to live with their family in Calgary and then move to Ste. Marguerite Manor.

David is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Jackie; granddaughter Lorelli and her husband Mike; grandson Andrew and his wife Lisa; six great-grandchildren, Juliet, Lola, Lily, Henry, Jack and Oscar; and his brothers, John and Roger. David will be sadly missed by family, relatives, and friends who pray he will once again be united with the love of his life.

Consistent with their wishes, David and Jean’s urns will be buried in a natural forested cemetery on Saltspring Island. The family would like to extend their appreciation for the care provided to David over the years and ask that flowers or chocolates be sent in his name to the Memory Care staff at Ste. Marguerite Manor, 110 Evanspark Manor, Evanston Drive, Calgary, AB T3P 0N4, in lieu of a public ceremony.

In living memory of David Stone, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, CALGARY, AB T2E 2V6, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
