Delva Thiele

Obituary of Delva Thiele

June 23, 1934 - Fernie, British Columbia

March 16, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

Delva Joan Thiele was suddenly called home, peacefully in her sleep to her Lord on the 16th of March, 2021 at the age of 86 years.

She was born in Fernie, BC on the 23rd June 1934 to Angelo and Dora Petovello who predeceased her.  Delva met the love of her life and was happily married to Arnie for sixty years until he passed away in 2017. Her heart made her role as Mom to Jacqueline (Jackie) and Glen (Heather) her top priority as well as later her grandson Mac and granddaughter Sydney.

Delva lived in Natal, BC until she was sixteen years old. She hated school and wanted to move to the big city and live with her sister Louvaine and Glen Pollock. Delva’s mother said she could go BUT she had to attend secretarial school. That’s when she enrolled in Henderson’s Business College in Calgary. After graduating she started working for Kelly, Lucy Insurance Adjusters and because she was from Italian heritage her boss called her Spaghetti. She loved working there but eventually she quit and started working at Mechanical Drywall.  This is where she met her future husband, Arnie Thiele.  They were wed on May 11, 1957, then in April 1958 their daughter Jacqueline came along. A few years later their son Glen was born in February 1962. Delva was the cornerstone to hers and Arnie’s business, Thiele Drywall Ltd. Employees were treated like family and if anyone needed a helping hand or a shoulder to cry on, she was always there.  Her joys, besides her family and friends were golfing at the cabin at Siksika Resort and later at Palm Desert. In 1992 they retired from the drywall business. Delva loved to crochet, travel, golf, and shop with Arnie. They were inseparable. Eventually they were blessed with two grandchildren, Mac and Sydney. Delva and Arnie loved spending time playing with them and loved every minute of it.  Her daughter Jacqueline taught Delva how to use a computer and IPad and until her passing she would text, email and face time her friends.  She really enjoyed keeping in touch with everyone.  Later, even though her health wained she still had an infectious laugh and time to visit with anyone who sought her out.

Delva is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Alexander (Kiki) and Elia Petovello of Sparwood, BC; daughter Jacqueline Thiele, son and daughter-in-law Glen and Heather Thiele; grandson Mac and granddaughter Sydney all of Calgary, AB, also numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband Arnie, parents, Angelo and Dora Petovello; sister Louvaine and brother-in-law Glen Pollock.

A special Thank you to Dr. Samual Schorr and all the staff and nurses at the dialysis centre in the Sheldon Chumir and the Foothills Hospital.

God needed an angel and sent Arnie to bring her home to her Lord.  Her heart will live forever in the people who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

A Celebration of Delva’s Life will be held at a later date.
