Obituary of Barbara (Barb) Ann DOBIE

July 4, 1950 – Regina, Saskatchewan
April 27, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Barbara (Barb) Ann Dobie passed away peacefully in the presence of family in Calgary, AB, on Tuesday, April 27, 2021.

Barb was born and raised in Regina, SK, where the importance of family and friends was introduced to her from an early age. Surrounded by siblings Dianne, Daphne, Ted and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, Barb could always be found in the middle of all the fun, ensuring everyone was enjoying themselves. Memories of special times spent at both Katepwa Lake and Waskesiu were held particularly dear to Barb.

After working for the Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Program and CKCK TV, Barb’s professional life focused on working at universities. She was an administrative assistant in both Animal and Poultry Science at the University of Saskatchewan, and at the University of Regina’s College West. From there she became a coordinator of Cooperative Education and Internship first at the UofR and then at the University of Calgary. She completed her working career as the Director of Administration for the UofC’s Faculty of Law. Barb retired in 2005.

Barb loved hiking in the mountains, gardening and hosting fabulous dinners for family and friends. One of her greatest joys in the last years was the time she spent with her grandchildren Owen and Margot and, her grandnieces Sydney and Morgan.

Barb is survived by her loving husband Bill Holbrow, stepson David Holbrow, stepdaughter Kathryn Garton (Chris),  two grandchildren, Owen and Margot; siblings, Dianne Smith, Daphne Walsh (Phil), and Ted Dobie (Susan); and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Dr. Frederick (Ted) and Patricia Dobie (nee Alport).

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
