Obituary of Denzil (Denny) Joseph Peter BAPTIE

April 30, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Denny Baptie, beloved husband of Maria Elena Baptie (nee Soria), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, April 30, 2021, at the age of 80 years.

Denny was born in Johannesburg, South Africa on February 22, 1941. At the age of 19, Denny left South Africa after he joined the British Armed forces. From here he was stationed in various military bases across Europe working on radio and communications equipment for both the public and military sectors. Denny married Maria in April of 1993. He was a dedicated Christian and spent much of his younger years doing ministry through bible study groups. Many of Denny’s friends and family speak of his concrete and uplifting faith in the Lord.

Denny loved being in nature. Hiking was something he did as often as he could, and he would always bring his camera with him to take beautiful photos of the places he visited. He fell in love with the West Coast and with the mountains. He would often go camping to immerse himself in the beauty of it all. Denny also deeply loved his family; he spent a great deal of time with them both at home and adventuring around the West Coast. When not at work, Denny was always with his wife and daughter.

He will be most remembered for his heart. Denny always had a way of touching the lives of everyone he came across, and always did his best to help others, and to be there when you needed him the most.

Besides his loving wife, Denny is survived by his only daughter Rachel Jones and son-in-law Caleb Jones in Calgary, AB. Denny is also survived by his two sisters, Noeleen Weyeneth and Ursula Maier; one brother David Baptie as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
