Obituary of Marcel COSSETTE

October 17, 1932 – Coderre, Saskatchewan

April 18, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Marcel Omer “Mr. Fix It” Cossette of Calgary, Alberta, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2021 in his home  at the age of 88 years.

Marcel was born in Coderre, Saskatchewan to Joseph and Eva on October 17, 1932. Marcel grew up with 9 of his siblings and was the fifth child of Joseph and Eva. The family only spoke French on the farm and Marcel had to learn English before he attended school. Marcel started working on the rail road at an early age, which eventually brought him to Calgary, Alberta in the 50’s.

Marcel was a jack of all trades, more specifically, a plumber, and worked at the University of Calgary until he “retired”. Marcel continued to help out his family and neighbours, completing different projects. There was never a job that he would not try to complete. In fact, Marcel built the house that he and his wife lived in, raising their children and welcoming their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marcel was an avid gardener; often tending too many of his neighbours gardens during his retirement while whistling a tune to the birds. Marcel always whistled.

Marcel was also known for creating batches of wine from the berries he picked from the near by river. After a few years of practice, the wine was definitely an afternoon delight. He loved to ski and loved teaching all of his grandchildren how to ski. More recently, Marcel tended the flower beds at the senior club in Bowness where he loved to play pool and attend different activities. Marcel loved to dance, often laughing about how he could out dance anyone! Marcel actually met his wife Noela at a dance in Calgary and they wed in 1966.

Marcel is survived by his wife, Noela of Calgary, children Michelle (Robert), and Elaine; grandchildren Kyra (Edmond), Janelle (Kris), Alyssa and Shealyn; great-grandchildren Jayden, Isabella, Cecilia, Everlea and Maya; brother Denis (Diane); sisters Emelia (Nick) and Doriena;  as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Marcel was predeceased by his son David; siblings Alec (Helen), Jeanette (Bill), Gerry, Harvey (Katherine), Ovid, and Adelaard; parents Joseph and Eva.

“I’m Free”

Don’t grieve for me for now I’m free.

I’m following the path God laid for me.

I took his hand when I heard him call.

I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day.

To laugh, to love, to work, or play.

Tasks left undone must stay that way.

I’ve found that peace at the close of day.

If my parting has left a void,

Then fill it with remembered joy.

A friendship shared, a laugh a kiss,

Ah yes, these things I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow;

I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.

My life’s been full, I’ve savored much,

Good times, good friends, a loved one’s touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all to brief,

Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.

Life up your heart and share with me,

God wanted me now, he set me free.
