Obituary of Kristen (Kris) SNETHUN

February 22, 1936 - Camrose, Alberta
May 8, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Kris was born in Camrose and grew up on a farm at Lougheed, Alberta, the youngest son of Inger and Anders Snethun. Predeceasing him were brothers Andrew, Lars, John and Peter. Also predeceasing Kris was son Tage in 1980.

After attending high school in Sedgewick, Kris moved to Calgary to attend Mount Royal College. From there he went to Oklahoma University and earned his degree in mechanical engineering. Returning to Calgary, he went to work for Hudson's Bay Oil and Gas Company.  Subsequent to that he spent several years at Canadian Homestead Oils before incorporating his own company. He spent many years sharing office space with former workmates including his good friend Duane Wikant. Remaining true to his roots, Kris and Wilma concurrently built up a significant farming operation at Stavely, Alberta. Kris was a very hard worker all of his life and tried to instill this in his sons. He often said to them, "do something - even if it's wrong".

Kris had many successful years skipping his curling teams at The Glencoe Club and in the Oilmens' Bonspiels. Later in life he became an avid golfer.  He very much appreciated his Saturday golfing buddies.

Besides his loving wife, Wilma, Kris is survived by his sons, Leif (Kim), Lee, and Thad (Trish); and grandchildren, Jaden, Nate, Cade, Kaela and Sage. He is also survived by his nephews, John Lamarsh (Joanne), Craig Lamarsh (Katherine) and children and sisters-in-law, Donna, Lorraine, Katie, nieces and nephews.
