Condolences
I also practised for a short time with Leon during the Downton, MacDonand, Plotkins, Sveen, etc. days, and did some of Leons personal work. What made him truly unique was a subtle sense of humour, together with a unique chuckle--he expected good work, but without being overly serious about it. I havent seen Leon for quite a few years, but remember the time I evicted a fellow in a wheelchair whose loud parties at all hours and days of the week had a whole floor up in arms in the apartment block he then owned. (a lawyer acquaintance down at Masters Chambers asked me what we did to little old ladies)... Or when we agreed to (successfully) focus on the fact that baby horses were born on a country holding property he owned, to argue that the taxes should be reduced. Or when he would have me drive his immaculate ten-year-old Olds Toronado to the 400 club for lunch (with or without one of his clients). I never did see his rumored angry side (golf club wrapped around a tree at Earl Grey, was the hearsay), but I fondly remember my association with him at the time. He was a good lawyer, but a special man.
Leon and I were closely associated in the practice of law. I've never seen - and never will - a more honest, intense hard-working and conscientious lawyer. Beyond that he was one of a kind. And he was totally fearless. He never hesitated to speak truth to power. He was a very successful business man and deserved to be. He won a DFC during World War Two and fully deserved it.

Sad to hear of Leon’s passing, albeit after a long and well-fulfilled lifetime as a senior member of the Calgary Bar. I know he practiced law in the finest traditions and ethics of his profession. Condolences to the family.

Leon was a kind and generous man who always had time for the people in his life. His kindness was a testament to how much love he had for others–for Alice, for his family, and for everyone who had the joy of knowing him. We will remember the thoughtful conversations and loving presence that Leon personified. Leon will be dearly missed.

My Uncle Leon was a generous, funny, inspiring, and one-of-a-kind man. He will be missed dearly by myself and so many others. I credit much of who I am and where I am today to the generosity and love I have been shown by my Uncle Leon and Aunty Alice. Thank you, Uncle Leon, for your unending kindness. I am so grateful to have known you.
All my love,
Shannon
When I think of my Uncle Leon my heart is filled with gratitude! He was a very positive male role model in my life. I remember as a young adult I would go to visit him at his office. He would always have time to pass along his wisdom for living a fulfilling life. His generosity, and caring helped me out many times throughout my life. I have so many wonderful memories at the cabin, and at family gatherings. Good bye Uncle Leon your presence will be so greatly missed! Love you, Suzie
Uncle Leon was one of the kindest and warmest, most generous man that I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Growing up and visiting him and my Aunty Alice are some of my fondest childhood memories. Being able to visit the cabin up in Sylvan Lake which they were kind enough to open up to me are memories I will never forget. Uncle Leon has made an incredible impact on my life and I have him, and Aunty Alice, to thank for so many opportunities and for always being supportive and having kind words. They never once missed a birthday and I always looked forward to the beautiful cards they would send. I am so glad to have had Uncle Leon in my life and he inspires me to continue growing and achieving, working hard, and living my life to the fullest. He has shown me kindness, thoughtfulness, generosity, and most of all humour and love. All my love Uncle Leon and my condolences to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing my great uncle.

For Mme. Lucille Panet-Raymond,
This is a voice from the far distant past, writing to send my condolences on the passing of your brother Leon.. I live in Ottawa but am in Cochrane at the moment and saw Leon's obituary in the Herald. It brought back many fond memories of our years at St. Mary's. My sincere condolences to all Leon's family and especially to you.
With best wishes,
Joe Stanford
