Obituary of James (Jamie) Nelson WOLTON

James Wolton, beloved husband of Patricia (Pat) Wolton (nee Duncan) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at the age of 73 years.

Jamie was born in Calgary, AB on December 14, 1947, the son of Rose Eileen Wolton and Nelson Harold Wolton. He lived in Calgary his entire life. Jamie married Pat in 2001. They met through his work as a sports coordinator and her volunteer work with the Calgary World Police Fire Games in 1997. He became a firefighter with the Calgary Fire Department in 1979 and retired in 2007 at a final rank of Captain. 

Jamie became a director with the World Police Fire Games Federation from 1999 to 2011, serving in this capacity through several games, which took him and Pat around the world over many years and led to many lasting friendships and memories for both of them. During this time he also created a new event – the Ultimate Firefighter of which he was very proud.

Jamie loved many sports, as an athlete, organizer and spectator. Many lifelong friendships arose from the sporting world. He was particularly proud of his many years as an umpire.

Besides his loving wife Pat, Jamie is survived by his sister Shannon (Bryan) Leavitt, Pat’s four sisters, one brother, three brothers-in-law, and on both sides many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and friends.
